Abstract: When a user places his finger on a fingerprint detecting section, in the fingerprint detecting section, a shadow made by the finger placed on the fingerprint detecting section is detected by a sensor portion, and then, when it is judged that a shape of the detected shadow coincides with a distribution of the shadow made by the user's finger, and thereby, a power is turned on. Thereafter, a fingerprint is detected from the finger placed on the fingerprint detecting section, and then, the detected fingerprint is collated with a previously stored fingerprint data so as to identify the user. Further, it is possible to use various data such as schedule data corresponding to the identified user. Therefore, this dispenses an operation for turning on the power and an instruction for starting fingerprint collation.

Abstract: There is provided a scroll controller which solves a problem that in scrolling an image at coordinates specified by a pen or the like to specific coordinates (e.g., the center), it is unable in a display such as a liquid crystal display having a slow display reaction speed to grasp the state of movement when a scroll quantity (scroll speed) per unit time is fast. The scroll controller calculates a difference between prefixed coordinates and the coordinate position specified by a position specifying device and on the basis of the calculation result, controls so that not only stepwise scroll quantities are obtained, but also scroll quantities in starting and ending of the scroll are different from that in the other time of the scroll.

Abstract: An imaging apparatus has a CCD with a predetermined aspect ratio, and a converging lens for projecting incident light onto the CCD. In the imaging apparatus, there is provided a ratio changing mechanism between the converging lens and the CCD, and an aspect ratio which is optically determined through the converging lens is selectively varied by the ratio changing mechanism so as to substantially coincide with the aspect ratio of the CCD.

Abstract: In a data processing device into which drawings can be inputted by, for example, touching a pen to the surface of a touch panel, in a draw mode, during inputting of a drawing, each line of the drawing is inputted and displayed in a different color. Then, in an erase mode, after designating the color of a line to be erased, the line to be erased is traced with the pen. By this means, even if a line to be erased is displayed so as to overlap with a line not to be erased, it is possible to erase only the line to be erased.

Abstract: A character recognition device which is provided with: a character cut-out section for cutting out a character from the character image that has been obtained by the CCD; a character-size storing section for storing at least one character size among character sizes required for recognition each of which is set for each of character types that can be recognized by the recognizing section; a size-judging section for comparing the size of the character that has been cut out by the character cut-out section with at least one of character sizes that have been stored in the character-size storing section; and, for example, a display section that serves as informing means for informing information corresponding to results obtained by comparing the size of the character that has been cut out by the character cut-out section with at least one of character sizes that have been stored in the character-size storing section by using the size-judging section.

Abstract: In a graphic preparing device of the present invention, when a user wants to place an image of post office, which is not stored beforehand, on a road, the picture of the post office is taken by a CCD camera, and is displayed on an additional symbol display position of a symbol display section. When a confirmation key is pressed at a timing when a desirable symbol is displayed on a screen, the displayed image is stored as a symbol. Then, when inside of a frame of the additional symbol display position of the symbol display section is touched with an input pen, and is dragged to a predetermined position on the road, the image of post office as stored as a symbol is displayed on the road, and is stored as a symbol on a map. Namely, the symbol incorporated by the CCD camera is treated in the same way as a common symbol. Also, the frame of the symbol touched with the input pen is enhance-displayed.

Abstract: An e-mail sending/receiving system is furnished with a host computer having a storage section for storing mails, a first control device for extracting the mails to be sent to a terminal in accordance with priorities assigned to the mails. Thus, the user can receive mails with higher priorities, such as urgent or important mails, in a secure manner without worrying about an available memory capacity of the terminal.

Abstract: A method for acquiring communication information in a communication system between a plurality of user communication terminals via a host computer on a network. The method includes registering, for each user communication terminal, beforehand in the host computer a user information including a communication confirmation schedule. The host computer transmits user information of a second user communication terminal to a first user communication terminal. This occurs when the host computer detects a communication connection from the first user communication terminal to the second user communication terminal.

Abstract: A data receiving apparatus in which mail from a sender for which a secret setting is made cannot be directly confirmed. In this data receiving apparatus, when a password is not inputted or when an incorrect password is inputted by a user when a display is in a state of password input screen, the display indicates only a received mail list for mails from persons who are identified by personal data sets stored in advance which do not have a secret flag. The display also indicates the number of all the mail data sets, including the mail data sets from persons for which the secret flag is set.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to easily and firmly read an image and to reduce power consumption. An image reading and displaying apparatus comprises a scanner for reading an image of a document arranged on the side of a read face where photocells are arranged in a matrix form, to output image information, a RAM for storing the image information from the scanner and a display device of a light transmitting type such including a display face for displaying the image information stored in RAM, the display device being such arranged that a back face of the display face contacts with a back face of the read face. Since the back face of the display face is arranged so as to contact the back face of the read face, an operator can confirm the image to be read, whereby the image can be read with certainty.

Abstract: An electronic dictionary, in which a highlight style storage section in a ROM pre-stores display data of a variety of styles for the highlight display, such as a solid shade, an underline, and a frame all in red. When a user selects an item for highlight display through an input section, a central processing unit allocates a style that has been used least frequently to the selected item, and synthesizes display data associated with the allocated style. Subsequently, at least either the title or attribute information of the selected item (i.e., the resulting synthesized display data) is displayed on a liquid crystal display section.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus having a main body and a lid body is configured so that the lid body can be switched between a closed state, a stacked state, a double screen state and an inverted state. Each of the main body and the lid body has a display section for displaying information and an input section composed of a transparent tablet and provided on the display section. As a sensor or the like detects the lid body in one of the four states, a control section of the information processing apparatus controls the display section so that a screen on the display section is appropriate to the detected state of the lid body. The control section also controls the lighting section for lighting the display section appropriately to the detected state of the lid body. This realizes appropriate display in accordance with usages of the information processing apparatus and offers an easy-to-operate and easy-to-use information processing apparatus.

This allows the portion of the window specified by the pen to be displayed in front of the window to be edited. As a result, in the case where editing of data is carried out on an active window referring to a window which is not an active window, the window to be referred to and the window to be edited are both clearly recognized without carrying out a complicated operation.

Abstract: An information processor having a scheduling function according to the present invention includes an input device, a memory for storing elementary item schedules, a RTC for generating time and date information, a CPU for detection for detecting a predetermined period based on the time and the date information generated by the RTC, a display for automatically displaying a list of the elementary item schedules stored in the memory at every predetermined period detected by the CPU for detection, and a selecting device for selecting a desired schedule from the list of the elementary item schedules displayed by the display device.

Abstract: A paging device with a message display function enables a person who possesses the paging device to register plural calling numbers including an area code in a memory section by operating an attached input section. The paging device is arranged such that upon receiving a calling number, a calling number corresponding to the received calling number is searched in last-to-first sequential character order, from a calling number directory registered in the memory section, and the calling number including the area code is displayed on a display section.
