  • Patent number: 5921127
Abstract: A hot strip rolling mill comprises a strip front-end arresting device arranged between the finishing mill and the down-coiler, and the strip front-end arresting device holds a front-end of the strip and moves from an exit of the finishing mill to the down-coiler at high speed while it gives a tension to the strip. Pinch rollers and cooling water spraying devices composing the strip cooling line are capable of moving in the upper and the lower direction with respect to the strip surface in accordance with the movement of the strip front-end arresting device. Further, the hot strip rolling mill comprises an auxiliary drive device for giving an initial acceleration to the strip front-end arresting device, and/or a strip edge portion holding device for easily transferring the front-end of the hot strip from the strip front-end arresting device to the down-coiler.

  • Patent number: 4700312
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for controlling a rolling mill which dampens a snake motion of a material being rolled is disclosed. According to this method and apparatus, an amount corresponding to the snake motion of the material being rolled is detected, and the value thus detected is added to a value corresponding to a differentiated value of said detected value. A control operation is applied to the material being rolled to thereby control the snake motion of the material.

  • Patent number: 4339287
Abstract: In a process for the production of a grain-oriented silicon steel strip, a slab is heated, hot-rolled, cold-rolled, and subjected to a decarburization annealing and secondary recrystallization annealing steps. Grain coarsening is likely to occur during the high temperature heating and remain in the final product as streaks. The secondary recrystallization is, therefore, incomplete due to the streaks. In the hot rolling, an asymmetric flow, is applied to the steel, so as to eliminate the streaks and, hence, to obtain excellent magnetic properties.

  • Patent number: 4299109
Abstract: A rolling mill includes at least one roll carrying a sleeve loosely on the barrel, and a sleeve-supporting-and-guiding unit the restricting point of which, i.e. the point at which force for axially shifting or restricting the shifting of the sleeve is applied on the sleeve, is located somewhere along the second-half semi-circular portion of the sleeve as viewed in the rotational direction of a complete turn of the sleeve ending at the loading point where the sleeve and the associated roll are subjected to loading pressure. The mill has a powerful crown-controlling capacity for workpieces varying widths, and the sleeve-supporting-and-guiding unit is sufficiently durable to withstand high speed rolling for mass production.

  • Patent number: 4148426
Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing metal pipe. The edges of a metal plate are bent up slightly, and the thus bent plate is then bent into a U-shape cross-section blank. The U-shape blank is finish-formed into an O-shaped blank with the longitudinal edges opposed to each other in a position for welding by placing one end of the U-shaped blank into at least one two-part die the parts of which are movable toward and away from each other.

  • Patent number: 4122696
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for manufacturing a metal pipe wherein a flat strip or skelp is formed into a cylindrical pipe while being fed in its longitudinal direction by a forming mill having a prefinishing stand, a train of forming stands for forming the skelp with a U-shaped cross section, and a train of finishing stands, the improvement wherein both edge surfaces of the skelp are caused to contact in substantially point contact recess-defining surfaces of concave V-shaped recess in pairs of forming rolls, the respective rolls which are disposed symmetrically in a plane normal to the pass line as the skelp moves through the train of forming stands along the line, and the skelp has a bending load applied by the forming rolls so as to form the skelp into a U-shaped skelp.
