  • Patent number: 4509421
Abstract: A printer head of improved design for a dot line printer, for high speed data printout. The printer head features independent magnetic circuits for driving each of the printer needles which form printed dots, with the magnetic circuits acting on armatures carrying the printer stylus, the armatures being mounted on the free ends of leaf springs. The leaf springs can be designed for optimum performance, irrespective of magnetic circuit considerations, and the head assembly is based on a lightweight non-magnetic frame. Substantially higher printing speeds than have hitherto been possible are attainable, due to reduced heat buildup in the drive coils, reduced interference between adjacent magnetic circuits, and optimized spring performance.

  • Patent number: 4502382
Abstract: A head for an impact type of dot line printer comprising an array of printer wires mounted on leaf springs for forming dots on a printing paper, selectively controlled for impact on the paper by signals applied to corresponding magnetic flux circuit paths comprising coils formed on coil cores and permanent magnets, and having an improved form of construction whereby each printer wire is controlled by an independent magnetic flux circuit path and with pairs of coil cores being mounted on separate magnetic flux path members. The configuration enables a high density of printer wires to be achieved, with elimination of magnetic interference between adjacent magnetic flux circuit paths leading to uniform printing density.

  • Patent number: 4386861
Abstract: A dot matrix impact printer for color printing comprising a platen and a print wire. The platen comprises a plurality of members made of porous material containing different colors. The print wire and platen member are driven to a position adjacent each other and the print wire is moved to force a paper to the platen, so that a dot is printed on the paper with color ink contained in the corresponding member of the platen.

  • Patent number: 4302115
Abstract: A print wire driver for dot matrix impact printers comprises a pair of yokes made of magnetic material, a solenoid disposed between the yokes, an armature extending through the solenoid, and a print wire connected to the end of the armature. One of the yokes has first and second projected yoke ends, the other has third and fourth yoke ends, which are opposed to each other. The solenoid is disposed between the projected yoke ends. Between the yokes, a permanent magnet is provided to magnetize both yokes in reverse polarity with each other. The armature and four yoke ends are so arranged as to make two magnetic circuits, one of which is the path connecting the first yoke end, armature and fourth yoke end, and the other is the path connecting the second yoke end, armature and third yoke end. The solenoid is excited alternately in polarity to alternately magnetize the armature. Thus, the armature is reciprocated by the attractive and repulsive forces of the magnetic circuit to drive the print wire.

  • Patent number: 4263847
Abstract: A dot matrix impact printer of the type which has a platen having a helical projection, a plurality of hammers arranged in the axial direction of the platen to cross the helical projection, and means for feeding an ink to the periphery of the helical projection. The platen is rotated and the hammer strikes the helical projection interposing the recording paper, so that dot matrix printing may be performed. In order to prevent the contamination of the recording paper with the ink, there is provided a separating member of resilient material along the helical projection. The periphery of the separating member is slightly higher than the helical projection, so that the recording paper is separated from the helical projection. The separating member is compressed by impacting the hammer so that the ink may be transferred to the paper.

  • Patent number: 4230039
Abstract: A printing apparatus includes a type drum the outer circumferential surface of which has a first set of type including a plurality of type faces arranged in a counter-clockwise spiral and a second set of type including a plurality of type faces arranged in a clockwise spiral. The type drum is both reciprocated and rotated in synchronous fashion by cooperation between reciprocating and rotating drive means so that the sets of type disposed on the type drum pass the positions of a plurality of printing hammers confronting the drum and adapted to perform printing by striking the type faces on the drum through an inked ribbon and recording medium.
