Patent number: 8175144Abstract: A method and apparatus for cached adaptive transforms for compressing data streams, computing similarity, and recognizing patterns have been disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention an encoder and decoder begin with a baseline transform. As data is transferred an algorithm is arranged so that the encoder and decoder adapt toward a superior basis than the baseline, with a corresponding reduction in the encoding bit rate. That is the algorithm adapts to the incoming data stream and can use a custom basis. We deliberately avoid having to send the custom basis itself (when possible), because sending the basis vectors consumes precious bandwidth and may defeat the goal of compression. The encoder and decoder can bootstrap themselves into using one or more better bases. In one embodiment of the invention there is no beginning baseline transform shared between the encoder and the decoder.Type: GrantFiled: January 1, 2010Date of Patent: May 8, 2012Assignee: Nahava Inc.Inventor: Russell Toshio Nakano

Patent number: 7931565Abstract: In a swing exercise machine having a seat, a seat driving apparatus that moves the seat along a locus formed by a combination of a periodic swing motion around an anteroposterior swing shaft and a periodic swing motion around a transverse swing shaft, and a control circuit that can control rotation speed and rotation direction of a motor. The control circuit can switch the rotation direction of the motor, so that the seat can be moved in a reverse direction along the locus. Since the human body is asymmetrical in the anteroposterior direction, the regions of the human body where muscle activities occur when the seat is moved in the reverse direction are different from those when the seat is moved in a normal direction. Thereby, it is possible to vary the effect of the swing exercise on the human body.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 2007Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Panasonic Electric Works Co., Ltd.Inventor: Toshio Nakano

Patent number: 7913039Abstract: A storage system includes a plurality of disk apparatuses configuring a plurality of RAID groups, a spare disk apparatus, and a controller. The controller is adapted to copy data stored in a disk apparatus, whose error count exceeds a first threshold, to the spare disk apparatus. If an error count of a disk apparatus included in a RAID group exceeds a second threshold which is lower than the first threshold, the controller is adapted to check error counts of other disk apparatuses included in the same RAID group. If any of the error counts of the other disk apparatuses included in the same RAID group exceeds the second threshold, the controller is adapted to change the first value of the first disk apparatus and the other disk apparatuses included in the same RAID group.Type: GrantFiled: June 4, 2010Date of Patent: March 22, 2011Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Ikuya Yagisawa, Takeki Okamoto, Naoto Matsunami, Mikio Fukuoka, Toshio Nakano, Kenichi Takamoto, Akira Yamamoto

Publication number: 20110046524Abstract: A passive exercise apparatus in this invention comprises a base, a seat, a driving unit, and a pair of footrests. The seat is disposed on the base. The driving unit is configured to reciprocate the seat past its neutral position relative to the base. A pair of the footrests is arranged on the base at a front of the seat and is spaced from the seat by a predetermined distance. The feature of the invention resides in that the each of the footrests has a top face for contact with a user's foot. Each of the footrest is configured to move the top face between a raised position and a lowered position. The top face is elastically urged toward the raised position.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2009Publication date: February 24, 2011Inventors: Izumi Mihara, Wataru Sanematsu, Taketora Nakamura, Toshio Nakano, Yutaka Yamada, Youji Kawamoto, Yukihiko Kitano
