  • Publication number: 20100070722
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide a method and apparatus for storage subsystem migration without re-configuration of the I/O path. In one embodiment, a computer system comprises a first storage subsystem, a second storage subsystem, and a computer device connected via a network. The first storage subsystem has a first port name for a first port through which a first volume in the first storage subsystem has I/O connection with the computer device. The second storage subsystem defines a first virtual volume which is associated with the first volume, and a first virtual port having a first virtual port name that is identical to the first port name. After activation of the first virtual port, the computer device switches I/O connection for the first volume from the first storage subsystem to the second storage subsystem via the network using the first virtual port name on the second storage subsystem.

  • Patent number: 7657720
Abstract: Provided is a storage apparatus operable to prevent incomplete backup and perform efficient backup even in systems characterized by a relatively small backup window and high degrees of utilization by users. This storage apparatus performs a snapshot of a volume storing data, using a logoff or login request at a certain point in time within in the backup window as a trigger, and creates a replication volume of the volume based on the acquired snapshot. To achieve the data consistency, when a login request is made, the storage apparatus temporarily suspends processing for establishing a session until the snapshot is created, and resumes such processing for establishing the session based on a login request after the snapshot is created. In one implementation, the replication volume is created in the background.

  • Publication number: 20090319736
Abstract: An integrated NAS and CAS storage system and method. System includes NAS and CAS devices and NAS and CAS clients. NAS device includes a NAS head for file sharing, and a storage system providing disk volume to store files. CAS device includes CAS head for archiving files, and a storage system providing disk volume to store archived files. CAS client includes archive AP for migrating files from NAS device to CAS device for archiving, and generating stub data indicating destination file path of archived data. When NAS client accesses stub data, NAS device receives data from CAS device and sends the data to NAS client. When NAS client accesses stub data as backup server, NAS device merely sends stub data to NAS client. NAS device employs methods of classifying the access type from NAS client, as normal NAS access or special NAS access for backup operation.

  • Publication number: 20090254640
Abstract: In one implementation, a system includes multiple SCSI nodes configured to perform a SCSI target function. Each of the multiple SCSI nodes includes a host bus adaptor configured to connect the SCSI node with a Fibre Channel fabric. The host bus adaptor being assigned a world wide name and a network address. The system further includes a host configured to perform a SCSI initiator function. The world wide name assigned to a source host bus adaptor associated with one SCSI node is relocated to a target host bus adaptor associated with another SCSI node. After that, the network address associated with the source host bus adaptor is relocated to the target host bus adaptor. In one implementation, the system determines whether or not a network address assigned to a source host bus adaptor associated with one of the multiple SCSI nodes is shared with at least one other service.

  • Publication number: 20080270697
Abstract: Before transferring a file, a CPU executes the following processing based on a transfer processing program: obtaining the directory tree structure of a transfer-source storage device; dividing the directory tree into directory trees so that each divided directory tree is structured within the full path length of a directory tree that can be handled by a transfer-destination storage device; associating the divided directory trees with each other; and then storing the associated directory trees in a volume of the transfer-destination storage device.

  • Publication number: 20080183774
Abstract: All the data in the source directory of the NAS device 2000 is copied to the destination directory of the NAS device 3000. During this time the NAS device 2000 receives added/modified data to the source directory. After the copy is completed, copying (differential data copy) of the data corresponding to the differential that is generated in the source directory is executed. Differential data copying is continued until the required copying time is less than a predetermined time. The NAS device 2000 suspends access from the client 4000, and copies a final differential data to the NAS device 3000. The NAS device 3000 starts to receive access from the client 4000.

  • Publication number: 20070094539
Abstract: Upon detection of a virus definition file update, a virus check server mounts a computer's storage area in a storage apparatus via a network to check whether or not a file stored in the storage area is infected with a virus. For the virus check, the virus check server communicates with the storage apparatus via a path different from the one that is laid between a user computer and the storage system. Therefore, a virus check executed by the virus check server does not lower the computer's communication speed and disk access speed.

  • Publication number: 20060109850
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to realize filter setting peculiar to iSCSI communication on an IP network. In a management server, discovery domain information is acquired, in which the connection relationship between a TCP port number and an IP address allocated to an iSCSI node, whether the iSCSI node is an iSCSI initiator or an iSCSI target, and a group to which the iSCSI node belongs are described. For a set of iSCSI nodes belonging to the same group, an access control list in which the IP address of the iSCSI node which is the iSCSI initiator is a source and in which the TCP port number and the IP address of the iSCSI node which is the iSCSI target is a destination is generated and then is set in a communication device.

  • Patent number: 6336244
Abstract: In an electric blower, exhaust air discharged radially from a centrifugal fan is redirected to a motor drive section by a diffuser and a fan cover. The air passes from a ventilation opening on a motor frame and through a bracket to cool the motor drive section. A portion of the air from the centrifugal fan is bled off through exhaust openings without passing over the motor, whereby this portion remains cooler and cleaner than the air that passes over the motor. Air flows up a wand and then passes over the motor to cool the motor. This air passes through filters before being discharged. The portion of air that is bled off passes along a parallel path in the wand to agitate dirt, and to maintain the wand relatively cool. In one embodiment, some of the bled-off portion is discharged directly without passing along the wand.
