  • Patent number: 5087232
Abstract: A gear train for transmitting the rotation from an input shaft to an output shaft is constituted such that a plurality of speeds are set by a plurality of planetary gear sets, each of which is provided with components including a sun gear, a ring gear and a carrier, and one of the planetary gear sets on one of the speeds does not participate in the transmission of torque from the input shaft to the output shaft. Also, single or a plurality of uniting clutches are provided to selectively interconnect at least either two of the components in the planetary gear set adapted not to participate in the transmission of torque.

  • Patent number: 4985011
Abstract: An automatic transmission including gear trains, which are constructed of at least three planetary gear sets each having three rotating members. A first clutch is arranged closer to an input shaft than the first planetary gear set for connecting any one of the rotating members of the first planetary gear set arranged adjacent to the input shaft. A second clutch is also arranged closer to the input shaft than the first planetary gear set for connecting another of the rotating members of the first planetary gear set and the input shaft. A third clutch is interposed between the first planetary gear set and the second planetary gear set for connecting any one of the rotating members of the second planetary gear set arranged at the opposite side to the input shaft across the first planetary gear set and the any one or the another of the rotating members of either one of the first clutch and the second clutch or the first planetary gear set.

  • Patent number: 4879921
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a transaxle casing to be used with a transverse type automatic transmission. An arcuate partition extending from the top to the bottom of a transmission gear case is disposed between the radially outermost rotary member of the transmission gear seat and a cover wall and in front of the transmission gear set with respect to the running direction of a vehicle. An oil sump is disposed below the transmission gear set. Thus, the lubricating oil splashed away the rotary member is guided into an oil return passage extending between the partition and the cover wall and opening into the oil sump so that it may be prevented from being caught again by the transmission gear set and heated to a high temperature.

  • Patent number: 4872376
Abstract: A transmission for a vehicle wherein a single pinion type planetary gear mechanism and a double pinion type planetary gear mechanism are operatively combined by clutches and brakes in various manners to provide five or even six speed stages and a reverse stage, the overall gear ratio between the lowest speed stage and the highest speed stage thereof being relatively small in spite of the five or even six speed stages. The transmission, by further incorporating one way clutches, is generally shifted between each two adjacent speed stages by only newly putting one of the clutches or brakes into engagement or out of engagement with no need of timely related operations of other clutches or brakes.
