  • Patent number: 9114548
Abstract: A method for forming a bevel cut at an end of a wood member is disclosed. A wood member is placed on a support table and a plurality of cutters mounted on and spaced along a shaft extending in parallel to the end of the wood member on the table is moved relative to the table in a direction inclined with respect to the wood member thereby to make a first cutting to form a plurality of bevel cuts. The support table is shifted in the direction parallel to the end of the wood member and a second cutting is made by the relative movement between the cutters and the table. During the first and second cutting, the wood member is pressed against the support table by a pressing member at a position adjacent to the end of the wood member and between any two adjacent cutters.

  • Patent number: 6913379
Abstract: With conventional closed kneaders, the temperature of the kneaded material remains high at the end of primary kneading because insufficient cooling is made in the interior part of the kneaded material, making it necessary to either provide cooling time between the primary and secondary kneading or to transfer materials to another kneader after the end of primary kneading for the secondary kneading. This has constituted an obstruction to productivity. In view of such problems, a closed kneader is capable of controlling the kneaded material temperature at the end of primary kneading at a level no higher than the temperature that allows addition of a vulcanizing agent line, and can perform secondary kneading immediately after the end of primary kneading. In a closed kneader provided with a chamber for storing kneaded material and a pair of rotors installed in the chamber, the proportion of the radius of the rotor shaft to the radius on the inner face of the chamber is kept at no less than 0.65.

  • Patent number: 6112786
Abstract: When scarfing the end portion of a plate-like material with irregular deformations or undulations, such as distortions, undulations and warps, the undulations are successively corrected flat and the flattened end portion is scarfed by a rotary cutter to form a highly precise scarfed surface. When the end portion of the plate-like material 3 is scarfed by the rotary cutter 5, the pressing member 11 presses, while the cutting operation proceeds, at least a part of the surface of at least that portion of the plate-like material 3 which is to be cut away as a chip 17 at a position near the blades 5b of the rotary cutter 5 on a downstream side of the rotary cutter with respect to a rotary cutter movement direction, the surface of the plate-like material 3 pressed by the pressing member 11 being opposite the other surface held in contact with the cutter receiving table 7.

  • Patent number: 5582676
Abstract: The invention provides a simply-constructed apparatus for applying a substantially fixed amount of adhesive onto a scarf-cut face of a veneer. The apparatus includes: a plurality of rolls (2,4,48,50) for successively feeding veneers in a predetermined feeding direction along fibers of the veneers; a plurality of detectors (6) for detecting existence of a veneer; an adhesive reservoir (40) having a length, in a direction perpendicular to the feeding direction, equal to or greater than the width of the veneers; an adhesive application member (24) having a length, in the direction perpendicular to the feeding direction, equal to or greater than the width of the veneers; and a plurality of pivot mechanisms (26) and lifting members (28) for reciprocating the adhesive application member (24) between a first position and a second position.

  • Patent number: 4841907
Abstract: A device for applying glue to the cut leading end of a veneer sheet which is applicable to use in a veneer jointing apparatus is disclosed herein. The device has hold-down means for holding the veneer sheet adjacent its cut leading end against a support surface on which a glue deposit is formed previously along a line across the veneer feeding direction, so that the end is straightened against said support surface at least while the glue is picked up by the cut surface on the moving leading end. It is so controlled that said holding means is shifted to its holding position before the cut leading end of the veneer sheet reaches the glue deposit and also that it is shifted away from the holding position only after the glue has been picked up by the cut leading end.
