  • Patent number: 7021724
Abstract: In a vacuum booster in which a reaction force mechanism is interposed between an input rod and a valve cylinder connected integrally with a booster piston, and an output rod, a valve piston is fitted onto an input piston connecting the input rod and the reaction force mechanism to be slidably movable forward from a predetermined retreat position with respect to the input piston, the valve piston is biased to the retreat position by a set spring, and locking device is provided between the valve piston and the valve cylinder to lock the valve piston at the valve cylinder thereby holding an atmosphere introduction valve seat in an open state at the time of emergency braking when the input piston moves forward by a predetermined number of strokes ahead of the valve cylinder. Thus, while a delay in atmosphere introduction into the operating chamber is eliminated irrespective of normal braking or emergency braking, the output is allowed to reach a servo limit point earlier and held at the time of emergency braking.

  • Patent number: 6397723
Abstract: A negative pressure booster comprises a repulsion force mechanism 24 provided among a valve cylinder 10, a valve piston 18 and an output rod 25. The repulsion force mechanism 24 includes: a flexible piston 22 positioned between the valve cylinder 10 and the output rod 25; a repulsion force piston 17 positioned facing the flexible piston 22 on the side opposite the output rod 25 and having a smaller diameter than the flexible piston 22; and a spring 48 positioned between the repulsion force piston 17 and the valve piston 18 and imposing a setup load thereon in the direction of contraction. In the valve cylinder, there is provided a stopper 45 supporting the front end of the valve piston 18 before the limit of the contraction of the spring 48 is reached.

  • Patent number: 6161463
Abstract: A negative pressure booster equipped with an electromagnetic auxiliary control means can introduce air into an operation chamber in correspondence with normal braking and urgent braking by a single valve element which is simple in structure and provides good response. A valve element is supported for to-and-fro movement within a prescribed stroke in the input member and spring-biased to the side of the retraction limit. A solenoid and fixed core of an electromagnetic auxiliary control means is fixed to the valve cylinder coupled with booster pistons. A movable core opposite to the fixed core is coupled with the valve element. When the solenoid is excited while the input member advances, the movable core is operated so that the advancement quantity (communication opening degree between the operation chambers and air) of the valve element for the valve cylinder exceeds that of the valve element operated by the input member.

  • Patent number: 5507216
Abstract: In a tandem type vacuum booster a coupling cylinder extending from the inner peripheral edge of a front booster piston is coupled to a piston boss with bolts, and the inner peripheral bead of the front diaphragm is held inserted between the front booster piston and the piston boss in which the coupling cylinder is increased in rigidity so that seal members are prevented from being adversely affected in seal characteristic by the deformation of the coupling cylinder, a reinforcing cylinder of synthetic resin which has an inward flange at the front end is fitted in the coupling cylinder extending from the inner peripheral edge of a front booster piston, and the reinforcing cylinder is held on the bottom plate of the coupling cylinder by the elastic force of a return coil spring applied to the inward flange. It is unnecessary to provide a particular mounting member for the reinforcing cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5259292
Abstract: A vacuum booster has a booster shell formed of a front shell half and a rear shell half interconnected at their open ends opposed to each other, and a diaphragm which divides the shell interior into a vacuum chamber on the front shell half side and a working chamber on the rear shell half side. An outer peripheral bead portion of the diaphragm is clamped between the open ends of both the shell halves with an outer surface of the outer peripheral bead portion being contacted under pressure with an inner surface of the open end of the front shell half. The outer peripheral bead portion is provided at an outer periphery thereof with a first tapered surface tapered toward the front shell half and a second tapered surface tapered toward the rear shell half such that the first and second tapered surfaces are formed into an angled shape in their cross section.

  • Patent number: 5211018
Abstract: A peripheral wall of a rectangular pedestal is formed bulged on the rear wall of a booster shell and attached to a vehicle body by four connecting bolts. The wall is comprised of a pair of shorter side walls parallel to shorter sides of the rectangle connecting axes of the four connecting bolts, a pair of longer side walls each bent so as to be gradually separated farther from the corresponding longer side of the rectangle at a central portion than at an end portion thereof, and four arcuate corner walls with each corner wall connecting the adjacent shorter and longer side walls. Thus, an intermediate portion of the longer side wall of the pedestal is increased in rigidity, so that an increased burden of stress can be imposed on such longer side wall. This moderates the stress concentration around the corners, thereby improving the durability of the booster shell.

  • Patent number: 5195421
Abstract: A pedestal formed bulged on a rear wall of a booster shell and attached to a vehicle body by four connecting bolts has a pheripheral wall whose length from a general wall of the rear wall of the booster shell to a seating face wall of the pedestal becomes larger toward each of corners of the pedestal. This ensures that the concentration of a stress produced at each of the corners of the peripheral wall of the pedestal can be moderated, thereby providing an improvedment in durability of the rear wall of the booster shell and suppressing an increase in internal volume of the pedestal to the utmost.
