    Abstract: The invention provides a lube base oil other than silicone oil having a kinematic viscosity of 12 mm2/s or below at 40° C., exhibiting, in Noack test (250° C., 1 hr), an evaporation loss of 30 mass % or below and/or a flash point of 200° C. or higher, and exhibiting an aniline point of 60° C. or higher. There is also provides a lubricating oil composition comprising the lube base oil mixed with at least one additive selected from the group consisting of an antioxidant, a viscosity index improver, a detergent dispersant, a friction reducing agent, a metal inactivator, a pour point depressant, an abrasion resisting agent, a defoamer, and an extreme-pressure additive. The lube base oil and the lubricating oil composition realize reduction of evaporation loss despite being of low viscosity and excellent compatibility with organic materials.

    Abstract: A fluid for traction drives for automobiles which comprises (A) a hydrocarbon compound having two bridged rings selected from bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane ring, bicyclo[3.2.1]octane ring, bicyclo[3.3.0]octane ring and bicyclo[2.2.2]octane ring and (B) a hydrocarbon compound having at least one structure selected from quaternary carbon atom and ring structures and having a kinematic viscosity at 40° C. of 10 mm2/s or smaller, and has a viscosity at ?40° C. of 40,000 Pa·s or smaller and a flash point of 140° C. or higher, is provided. This fluid exhibits a great traction coefficient at high temperatures and very small viscosity at low temperatures. A fluid for traction drives which comprises a specific bicyclo[2,2,1]heptane derivative having 14 to 17 carbon atoms and having a viscosity index of 0 or greater is also provided. This fluid exhibits improved viscosity-temperature characteristics, decreased viscosity and improved fluidity at low temperatures.

    Abstract: The invention provides processes for the recovery of a catalyst which are to be applied to the reactions wherein boron trifluoride or a complex thereof is used as the catalyst, that is, (I) a process for the recovery of a catalyst which comprises using as the reaction solvent a solvent containing a hydrofluorocarbon compound and/or an oxygenic hydrofluorocarbon compound and, after the completion of the reaction, separating the reaction solvent from the reaction mixture; and (II) a process for the recovery of a catalyst which comprises extracting boron trifluoride or a complex thereof from the reaction mixture after the completion of the reaction by using a hydrofluorocarbon compound and/or an oxygenic hydrofluorocarbon compound as the extracting solvent. According to the processes, boron trifluoride or complexes thereof used as catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixtures and re-used.

The lubricant base oil composition has a flash point of not lower than 150° C. and has a high traction coefficient at high temperatures, and its low-temperature flowability characteristic is good. The oil composition is favorable for traction drive fluid.
