  • Patent number: 6038040
Abstract: An image forming apparatus stores a plurality of jobs. When a process for a job is temporarily stopped due to any trouble of the apparatus or interruption, the job is not automatically resumed if an image reader and a printer operate for the same job. If the image reader and the printer operate for different jobs, only the printing operation is automatically resumed. In this case, the reading operation of the image reader is not automatically resumed.

  • Patent number: 6023560
Abstract: A maximum acceptable number (max.sub.-- req.sub.-- num(i)) is set for each transmission device (source of request) (i) which transmits image data. If it is determined that the maximum acceptable number is set for a source of request of a job, determination is made as to whether or not the number of currently accepted jobs from the source of request (current.sub.-- req.sub.-- num(i)) is less than the maximum acceptable number. If so, determination is made as to whether or not the number of jobs exceeds the maximum acceptable number which is the limit of acceptance of a memory in an image forming apparatus, if a currently requested job is accepted. If not exceeds, "acceptable" is given to the source of request. If exceeds, or if the number of currently accepted jobs from the source of request reaches the maximum acceptable number, "not acceptable" is transmitted to the source of request.

  • Patent number: 5907744
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus, first in a printing delay process, it is determined whether or not a specific mode is set. When it is determined that a specific mode is set, printing is inhibited until images to be printed are accumulated in a memory, and whether or not originals are mixed originals (of assorted sizes) is detected. If it is determined that originals are mixed ones, start of printing is inhibited. Since printing cannot be executed when a specific mode in which mixed originals cannot be handled is set, an image forming apparatus capable of automatically handling mixed originals can be provided.

  • Patent number: 5546166
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of making copies under either predetermined standard copy conditions or copy conditions optionally set by an operator. After the final key input, or at the completion of a copying process, a first timer is set to count a predetermined time period. When the first timer finishes counting, the copy conditions are automatically set to the standard conditions. The above apparatus is provided with a guidance mode for the purpose of explaining the method for setting the functions and copy conditions within the apparatus to an inexperienced operator. In the case where the guidance mode is set by the operator, a second timer is set to count a predetermined time period longer than the time period counted by the first timer. When the second timer finishes counting, the copy conditions are automatically set to the standard conditions.

  • Patent number: 5296907
Abstract: An image forming apparatus according to the invention includes a document transporting device for transporting a plurality of documents set on a tray one by one to a platen, copying mode selecting keys for selecting a first copying mode for forming images from the plurality of documents under first copying conditions and a second copying mode for forming an image from a particular one of the documents under second copying conditions, and a control device for executing the image forming operation under the copying conditions of the copy mode selected by the copy mode selecting key.

  • Patent number: 5220395
Abstract: An image forming apparatus capable of indicating document orientation for a reference to set an original document on a document platen, the image forming apparatus including a document orientation display member for displaying the document orientation at a normal copy mode in a normal display form in which the document orientation coincides with an orientation of a fed copy sheet, and at a specific copy mode which differs from the normal copy mode in a specific display form which differs from the normal display form at the normal copy mode.

  • Patent number: 5220394
Abstract: A copying apparatus copies an image of each original document either in a one-side copy mode or a both-side copy mode during a cover copy mode. The copying apparatus is capable of selectively supplying colored copy sheets for a cover page and ordinary white copy sheets for the other pages. A controller controls the copying apparatus such that the image of one cover page is copied on one side of a colored copy sheet, the image of each table of contents is copied on one side of a white copy sheet, and the image of each of the other content pages is copied on both sides of a white copy sheet.

  • Patent number: 5065198
Abstract: A copying machine having the APS mode for automatically selecting size of copy paper based on the size of the original and the copying magnification includes an APS mode setting switch, copy paper selecting switch for manually selecting the size of the copy paper and a controller for controlling the copying machine such that the operation of the copy paper selecting switch is inhibited when the APS mode is set. When the APS mode is set in the copying machine, the copy paper having the size selected by the copy paper selecting switch is inhibited even if the user operates the copy paper selection switch, due to the operation of the controller.
