  • Patent number: 9926899
Abstract: A fuel-filter abnormality detection device is used for a subject filter provided in a fuel supply device of an engine to filtrate a fuel. The fuel-filter abnormality detection device includes a first filter attachable downstream of the subject filter in fuel flow. A filtration capacity of the first filter is smaller than a filtration capacity of the subject filter, and the first filter traps a foreign matter on a downstream side of the subject filter to cause a change in fuel pressure indicating an abnormality of the subject filter. The fuel-filter abnormality detection device may include a bypass passage through which the fuel bypasses the first filter, a bypass control valve configured to allow the fuel to flow through the bypass passage when the abnormality of the subject filter is detected, and a second filter filtrating the fuel flowing through the bypass passage.

  • Publication number: 20120204833
Abstract: A fuel injection device includes a fuel supply pump, an injector, a filter, a circulation flow passage, an introduction valve, a circulation flow valve and a check valve. The injector supplies fuel discharged from the fuel supply pump to an engine, and the filter is arranged upstream of the fuel supply pump. The circulation flow passage introduces high-pressure fuel into the filter from a high-pressure flow passage provided between the fuel supply pump and the injector by opening of the introduction valve. The circulation flow valve is provided in the circulation flow passage and allows or interrupts inflow of fuel from the circulation flow passage into the filter depending on a fuel temperature. The check valve is provided upstream of the circulation flow valve to prevent backflow, and opens when a fuel pressure in the circulation flow passage is higher than a predetermined pressure.

  • Publication number: 20110049041
Abstract: A fuel filter element includes a first layer and a second layer. The first layer has a first pore size. The second layer is stacked on the first layer and has a second pore size smaller than the first pore size. The second layer is a filter paper made of a fiber including a refined fiber and an unrefined organic fiber. The refined fiber is a cellulose fiber treated with a refining process and fibrillated so as to have a freeness within a range from 120 ml to 180 ml. The unrefined organic fiber has a fiber diameter within a range from 8 ?m to 13 ?m and is not treated with a refining process. The refined fiber accounts from 70 weight % to 85 weight % of the fiber and the unrefined organic fiber accounts for the remain.

  • Patent number: 7827966
Abstract: An ECU reduces a fuel flow rate discharged from an electric pump to the filter when a fuel temperature and a fuel pressure in the filter detected by a sensor portion drop. Since a mechanical pump continues to be driven without respect to the fuel quantity discharged from the electric pumps when the fuel flow rate discharged from the electric pump is decreased, a suction pressure is generated at an inlet of the filter. The fuel in a recirculation passage is introduced into the filter through a branch passage. As the result, relatively high temperature fuel is introduced into the filter to melt a solidified fuel causing a clogging of the filter.

  • Patent number: 7793642
Abstract: In a fuel supply apparatus, a fuel pump draws fuel from a fuel tank, and discharges the fuel to a high-pressure fuel system. A filter unit has a filter element located on a downstream side of the fuel pump to remove foreign matters contained in the fuel discharged from the fuel pump. A jet pump has a nozzle that is installed in a fuel supply passage between the fuel pump and the filter element. The nozzle injects the fuel to a downstream side of the nozzle in the fuel supply passage. The introducing passage introduces excessive fuel from the high-pressure fuel system to the downstream side of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 7743751
Abstract: A feed pump pumps fuel from a fuel tank. A filter portion includes a filter element for removing foreign matter contained in the fuel discharged from the feed pump. A high-pressure pump pumps the filtered fuel to the internal combustion engine. A return passage is connected with a passage between the filter element and the high-pressure pump for partially returning the filtered fuel to the fuel tank. A priming pump portion has an inlet port, which is connected with the return passage, and an outlet port, which is connected with the filter element. The priming pump portion draws fuel from the fuel tank to supply the fuel to the filter element when being operated.
