Abstract: A windmill comprising a generally cylindrically shaped housing having a vertical axis, a vertical shaft concentrically disposed in the housing and a rotor fixedly attached to the shaft and comprising a plurality of equally peripherally spaced, vertically extending trough-shaped wind scoops. Each scoop has a closed back surface with vertically extending leading and following edges and a vertically extending open front exposed to the wind. Each scoop is attached at its edges to the adjacent scoops to form a generally cylindrical scoop assembly.
