  • Patent number: 4984980
Abstract: A mold clamping apparatus includes a stationary platen, a movable platen, a driving device, a rotational-linear motion transmission mechanism, a braking device, and a mold clamping force applying mechanism. The stationary platen is arranged on a frame and mounts a stationary metal mold for a molding machine. The movable platen is arranged to oppose the stationary platen to move forward/backward with respect to the stationary platen and mounts a movable metal mold. The driving device moves the movable platen forward/backward with respect to the stationary platen. The rotational-linear motion transmission mechanism is arranged between the driving device and the movable platen and converts a rotational torque of the driving device into a linear motion in a moving direction of the movable platen. The braking device is connected to the driving device and brakes a linear motion of the movable platen toward the stationary platen at the end of the linear motion.

  • Patent number: 4892131
Abstract: A stationary board adapted to support a metal die and a frame adapted to support an injection cylinder are formed as an integral hollow structure. A sleeve teemed with molten metal extends through the board coaxially with the injection cylinder, and the molten metal in the cylinder is injected into the die by a plunger operated by the injection cylinder. With this construction, the weight of the apparatus is decreased and the rigidity can be increased. Further, not only centering of the injection cylinder is facilitated but also the length of the sleeve can be decreased.

  • Patent number: 4799534
Abstract: A vertical die casting machine of a vertically clamping type provided with a hydraulic piston-cylinder to actuate movable parting plates disposed between an injection sleeve and a runner hole in a stationary mold for constricting a melt passage, the parting plates defining an axial through-hole in a clamped state. The parting plates prevent a semi-solidified part of the melt "shell" formed in the sleeve before an injection operation from intruding into a die cavity with the liquid melt. In an embodiment with a narrow runner hole having a diameter smaller than that of the sleeve, the parting plates move together to shear a cold melt runner from the cold melt bisket formed in the sleeve so that a cast product may be upwardly removed from the stationary mold.

  • Patent number: 4754801
Abstract: A die casting machine in which a rotary table, mounted with a plurality of die open and close units each holding a die, is sequentially brought into association with a plurality of work stations. The die is clamped in two steps, that is, a regular die clamping and a temporary die clamping. The regular die clamping is carried out by applying the regular clamping force required by a particular injection step. The temporary die clamping is carried out by applying a clamping force which is smaller than the regular clamping force. Consequently, this die casting machine can greatly reduce the time required for the casting cycle for each product, thus providing remarkably improved productivity. Preferably, a metal cooling apparatus suitable for a rotary die casting machine may be further provided.

  • Patent number: 4287935
Abstract: A vertical die casting machine comprising: a casting cylinder, pivotably mounted to a base, for activating a piston extension slidably fitted in a casting sleeve, and; a hollow block having an upper end connected to the casting sleeve and having a bore reduced at a lower end thereof through which bore the piston extension extends into the block. The block is forced to move by a ram cylinder relative to the casting cylinder. The piston extension has a radial extension in the block designed so that an engagement of the radial extension with the reduced bore end of the block causes a positional relationship between the casting sleeve and the piston extension to be maintained constant during an axial downward movement of the piston extension driven by the casting cylinder and during an axial upward movement driven by the ram cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4269259
Abstract: A pull-back ram cylinder apparatus in combination with a vertical mold clamping machine to be incorporated in a vertical molding or casting machine. The pull-back apparatus comprises a hydraulic cylinder for actuating a hollow ram. A ram extension consisting of the ram and a ram rod extending into the ram in a thread engagement is slidably fitted in the cylinder. The ram rod extends downwardly from the cylinder and is connected to a movable platen of the clamping machine carrying a movable mold. The cylinder has a lower throttle portion in which radial openings for discharging an operation oil are formed in an axially spaced arrangement. The inner diameter of the throttle portion is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the ram. The throttle portion having the axially spaced openings serves, in cooperation with the head end portion of the ram, as buffering means by which the movable mold is allowed to come into contact gently with a stationary mold.

  • Patent number: 4252177
Abstract: In cylindrical insert loading apparatus of the type wherein an insert transfer unit is reciprocated by a transfer device between stationary and movable metal molds of a die cast machine and an insert supply unit, the insert transfer unit comprises a movable frame and insert loading cylinders are mounted on the movable frame with their operating axes cross with each other. After the inserts have been supplied from an insert supply furnace to the operating ends of insert loading cylinders, the insert transfer unit is moved between the stationary and movable molds while maintaining horizontal attitude. The movable frame is moved in the axial direction of the die cast machine until the insert transfer unit collides against the movable metal mold to align the inserts with the insert receiving sections in the movable metal mold. Thereafter, insert loading cylinders are operated to load the inserts and the insert transfer unit is returned to the insert supply furnace.

  • Patent number: 4088178
Abstract: In a vertical die casting machine of the type wherein molten metal contained in a vertical casting sleeve located beneath a stationary platen is cast into a die cavity defined between a stationary die and a movable die urged against the stationary die, the casting sleeve is divided into an upper and a lower part. The upper casting sleeve is secured to the stationary platen in communication with the die cavity. The lower casting sleeve is normally held in vertical alignment with the upper casting sleeve but is moved to a position lateral to the stationary platen for receiving the molten metal. When the lower casting sleeve is returned to the normal vertical position it is urged against the upper casting sleeve and molten metal in the lower casting sleeve is teemed and cast into the die cavity by operating an injection plunger.
