    Abstract: The following new isocarbostyryl derivatives represented by the general formula [I]: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, are provided, said derivatives having excellent angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitory activity with expectations therefore being as a hypotensor, and prepared by solvolysis of a compound of the following general formula [II]: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 is the same as defined above, R.sub.2 is an acyl group, and R.sub.3 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aralkyl group.
