Abstract: A heater system for an electric vehicle that is void of engine coolant. The heater system can include an air duct having an opening into a passenger compartment of the vehicle and a heater unit attached to the air duct. The heater unit can have a self-contained quantity of oil within an oil reservoir and an oil channel in fluid communication with the oil reservoir. The oil channel can be located between a front wall and a back wall of the heater unit and the unit can also have an electric heating element at least partially within the oil reservoir. The electric heater unit can be operable to heat oil in the oil reservoir and thereby result in the oil flowing through the oil channel and heating the front wall and the back wall of the unit.

  • Publication number: 20140107982
Abstract: Examples of the invention include methods and apparatus for determining an electromagnetic field, such as a magnetic field, at a selected location within computer-aided design (CAD) data. An example approach may include selecting a location by clicking on, or otherwise selecting the location within a visual representation of the CAD data, selecting one or more electrical components within the CAD data, retrieving electrical current data and distance data for each of the selected electrical components, and determining the electromagnetic field at the selected location using electromagnetic theory. Examples of the invention allow rapid determination of potential electromagnetic noise problems in the CAD design stage, before prototyping and without the complexity of a full 3D electromagnetic simulation.

  • Publication number: 20140096366
Abstract: A connection assembly for attaching metallic and plastic components by a heat staking operation includes a first component, a second component, a compressible protrusion, an annular collar, and a deformable stud. The first component is formed of a metallic material and includes an inner surface. The second component includes an interior surface facing the inner surface of the first component and an opposite exterior surface. The second component includes a plurality of apertures which extend between the interior surface and the exterior surface. During the heat staking operation the deformable stud is deformed so as to restrain relative movement between the first and second components. The compressible protrusion plastically deforms to absorb pressure to prevent cracking of the second component and the annular collar absorbs heat to prevent the second component adjacent the aperture from melting.

  • Publication number: 20140100723
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling the path of movement of an automatic guided vehicle relative to a first guidepath laterally along first and second cross tracks to a second guidepath laterally offset from the first guidepath. The turn indicator is mounted relative to the first and second guide tracks. A turn indicator sensor carried on the automatic guided vehicle detects the turn indicator. A controller responsive to the sensor output positions the automatic guided vehicle for movement of the first drive wheel along one of the cross tracks and the second guide wheel along the other cross track laterally from the first guidepath to the second guidepath.

  • Publication number: 20130271076
Abstract: A charge notification system or user-selectable charge configuration for a vehicle. The system includes a battery, a charging connector, a charging cable, a charge location, a processor and a memory. The processor of the vehicle determines, based upon logic steps or parameters stored in the memory, when to send messages to a remote device based upon a charging characteristic of the vehicle. Different messages may be generated by the processor and transmitted for different charging characteristics of the vehicle. The charge notification system may also include an indicator local to the vehicle and configured to illuminate in varying configurations or at varying frequencies based upon a state of charge of the battery. A user may select between charging modes for the vehicle in order to extend a useable life of the battery by allowing the battery to charge up to predetermined or modifiable battery charge levels.

  • Publication number: 20130148221
Abstract: A non-dichroic omnidirectional structural color multilayer structure. The non-dichroic omnidirectional structural color multilayer structure has an absorbing layer, a first layer extending across the absorbing layer, and a second layer extending across the first layer. The multilayer structure can reflect a narrow band of electromagnetic radiation that has a width of less than 500 nanometers and a center wavelength shift of less than 200 nanometers when the multilayer structure is viewed from angles between 0 and 45 degrees. In addition, the absorbing layer can block electromagnetic radiation reflected off of a surface that is proximate to the multilayer structure and thereby afford for a “pure” color that is not contaminated by reflected light from surrounding surfaces.
