Abstract: The present disclosure relates to preservative compositions for and methods of preserving household formulations, such as detergents, or preserving topical cosmetic or toiletry formulations against microbiological contamination or growth. Specifically, the disclosure relates to preservative compositions comprising an effective amount of a quaternary amine compound, an effective amount of an antifungal, and a solvent. Further, the disclosure relates to cosmetic or toiletry formulations comprising such preservative compositions. The disclosure further relates to method of making and using such preservative compositions and such cosmetic or toiletry formulations comprising the same.

Abstract: Compositions comprising sun-care actives and self adapting polymers are disclosed. Self adapting polymers align themselves with the hydrophilic group pointing to the surface during application thus delivering an aesthetically pleasing surface to the consumers with a pleasant after feel. These polymers then rearrange upon contact with water so that the hydrophobic groups now point to the surface which then increases the water resistance of the formulation.

Abstract: Compositions containing a relatively high concentration of electrolytes and a thickening agent, wherein the thickening agent comprises a strongly swellable, lightly to moderately crosslinked polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The polyvinyl pyrrolidone thickening agent is characterized by an aqueous gel volume of about 15 to 150 ml/g and a Brookfield viscosity of at least 10,000 cps for a 5% aqueous solution at 25° C.

Abstract: Described herein are personal care compositions for use on the skin, hair, and lips that comprise: (A) at least one metal oxide, (B) lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP, and (C) at least one vehicle selected from the group consisting of: alcohols, esters, oils, glycols, and combinations thereof. The lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP suspends the metal oxide(s) whether or not water is added. Abstract: Topical compositions are provided that have 0.5% or more of at least one personal care or pharmaceutical acid, and lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP, which is an effective thickener in the low pH systems. In preferred embodiments, the acid is a hydroxy acid and the composition used for personal care, or prescriptive or non-prescriptive medication indications for use on the skin, hair, scalp, foot, or lips. Also provided is the use of the topical compositions to deliver the acid(s) to the skin, hair, scalp, foot, or lips. Especially preferred is a use to reduce irritation and stinging compared to an equivalent compositions not having lightly- to moderately-crosslinked PVP.

Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a water-resistant, rub-resistant, sprayable, clear, and homogeneous sunscreen composition which includes an active sunscreen ingredient, alcohol, and a vinyl lactam or maleimide polymer soluble in the composition.
