  • Patent number: 10727580
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with antenna structures that convey radio-frequency signals greater than 10 GHz. The antenna structures may include overlapping first and second patches. The first patch may include a hole. A transmission line for the second patch may include a conductive via extending through the hole. The via may be coupled to a first end of a trace. A second end of the trace may be coupled to a feed terminal on the second patch over an additional via. The hole may be located within a central region of the first patch to allow the via to pass through the hole without electromagnetically coupling to the first patch. If desired, adjustable impedance matching circuits may be used to couple selected impedances to the antenna feeds that help ensure that the first and second patch antennas are sufficiently isolated from each other.

  • Patent number: 10476136
Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with wireless circuitry, a conductive housing, and a display. The display may have an active area that displays image data and an inactive area that does not display image data. The active area may completely surround the inactive area at a front face of the device. A speaker port may be aligned with the inactive area and may emit sound through the inactive area. The wireless circuitry may include first and second antenna arrays. The first array may be configured to transmit and receive wireless signals at frequencies between 10 GHz and 300 GHz through the inactive area of the display. The second array may be configured to transmit and receive wireless signals at frequencies between 10 GHz and 300 GHz through a slot in a rear wall of the conductive housing. Control circuitry may perform beam steering using the first and second arrays.

  • Patent number: 9871501
Abstract: An RF circuit includes a first dielectric material, a signal line and a bias line over a first surface of the first dielectric material, a conductive layer over a second surface of the first dielectric material, and a second dielectric material over the conductive layer. The first and second dielectric materials have different dielectric constants. The conductive layer includes a ground plane over which the signal line is formed. A conductive material void, with which a section of the bias line is aligned, is present in the second conductive layer. The RF circuit further includes a mounting area for an RF device. First ends of the signal line and the section of the bias line are located proximate to the mounting area to enable the signal line and the bias line to be electrically coupled with one or more leads of the RF device.

  • Patent number: 9660594
Abstract: In general the embodiments described herein can provide alternating-current (AC) resonating filters. These resonating filters comprise a transmission line, a first resonator, and a second resonator. The first resonator is configured to block AC signals in a first frequency range, while the second resonator is configured to block AC signals in a second frequency range, where the second frequency range is higher than the first frequency range. The transmission line has a first node coupled to an AC source, and the first resonator is coupled to the transmission line a first distance from the first node, and the second resonator is coupled to the transmission line a second distance from the first node, where the second distance is greater than the first distance. When so configured the resonating filter can effectively block signals in multiple selected frequency bandwidths.
