Patent number: 12573092Abstract: Examples are disclosed relating to a method for calibrating a depth camera without requiring an external target. In one example, an environment is illuminated using an illumination source of the depth camera. The illumination source is configured to output modulated structured light comprising a pattern of dots. A raw depth image of illumination reflected from the environment is acquired via an optical sensor of the depth camera. Observed locations of dots in the pattern of dots are identified in the raw depth image. An objective function is applied to the observed locations of the dots in the pattern of dots in the raw image to generate a set of distortion correction parameters. A distortion corrected depth image generated based at least on translating pixel locations of pixels of the raw depth image according to the set of distortion correction parameters is output.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2024Date of Patent: March 10, 2026Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Vishali Mogallapu, John Peter Godbaz, Ling Zhu, Travis Jon Perry

Patent number: 12272084Abstract: One example provides a computing system comprising a depth sensor comprising a plurality of pixels, and a storage machine holding instructions executable by a logic machine to, for each pixel, make K phase measurements to form a set of noisy phase measurements, determine a location at which a projection line that passes through the set of noisy phase measurements in a K-dimensional phase space passes through a lower dimensional plane, the projection line being parallel to a noise free phase evolution line, compare the location to a plurality of independent terms of a predetermined matrix of points in the lower dimensional plane, locate a corresponding set of noiseless phase orders by using a selected set of independent terms to reference a look-up table, determine a distance value for the pixel based upon the corresponding set of noiseless phase orders, and output the distance value for the pixel.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 2023Date of Patent: April 8, 2025Assignee: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Sergio Ortiz Egea, Travis Jon Perry

Publication number: 20220060455Abstract: An edge computing device includes a System-on-Module (SoM) device that communicates over USB to provide security and provides hardware artificial intelligence acceleration and hardware encryption to the edge computing device. The SoM device includes a hardware encryption module with an encryption key shared between the SoM device and the cloud server that creates an identity for the SoM device and secure authentication of the identity of the SoM device between the SoM device and a cloud server. The hardware encryption module is configured to have a secure root of trust, the ability to attest software containers distributed from the cloud server, and protect data processed on the SoM device and transmitted to the cloud server.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2020Publication date: February 24, 2022Applicant: Microsoft Technology Licensing, LLCInventors: Daniel ROSENSTEIN, David R.
