    Abstract: A method for reading a utility meter utilizing broadband infrastructure is provided. The method may include transmitting utility usage data from a plurality of customer premises to a remote enclosure, coupled with a utility pole, using a power line communications infrastructure. The utility usage data may be received at the remote enclosure. The remote enclosure may include a digital subscriber line (“DSL”) modem for modulating the utility usage data. The modulated utility usage data may be transmitted over a public broadband network infrastructure to a utility provider.
