  • Patent number: 8053485
Abstract: A polyurethane foam is disclosed and described. The polyurethane foam is formed by combining a first component comprising at least one polyol with a second component comprising at least one polyisocyanate. The ratio of the number of isocyanate equivalents in the second component to the number of hydroxyl equivalents in the second component is less than 1.0. The foam exhibits low levels of free diisocyanate monomer, thereby reducing the amount of hazardous, volatile organic compounds. As a result, the foam can be prepared and installed without the need for ventilation equipment, external sources of fresh air, and the like.

  • Patent number: 6887911
Abstract: Foamed molded articles produced by reaction injection molding (RIM) are provided. The molded articles are formed by reaction of a polyisocyanate component with an isocyanate reactive component in a mold using a blowing agent. The molded articles are preferably composites formed in the presence of a fibrous reinforcing material. The foamed articles are characterized by relatively short minimum mold residence times, and can thereby be produced more economically than prior art composites. The foamed articles are further characterized by a reduction in physical defects, such as splits and voids.

  • Publication number: 20040192800
Abstract: A reaction system used to produce an unreinforced structural foam molding includes a polyisocyanate component, an organic isocyanate-reactive component, an isocyanate foaming agent and optionally an additive. The reaction system can be used in a reaction injection molding process where the reaction system is first blended to form a liquid reacting mixture that is injected into a mold. After the liquid reacting mixture foams and cures within the mold, the mold is opened and the unreinforced structural foam molding is removed.
