  • Publication number: 20230354756
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus related to growing plants. In one aspect, an apparatus include a platform, a light emitting diode (LED) panel, one or more imaging modules, a liquid handling unit, a robotic arm, with these components being positioned in a chamber. A first surface of the platform including features defining a plurality of areas, with each area defining a space for a plant growth device. The LED panel is positioned to illuminate the first surface of the platform. The heat exchanger is in thermal contact with a second surface of the platform. The imaging module includes an imaging device from the group a microscope, a camera, and a scanner. The liquid handling unit is operable to add and remove liquids from the plant growth device. The robotic arm is operable to pick up and move the plant growth device from the platform to an imaging module.

  • Patent number: 11510376
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and devices related to the study of ecological processes. In one aspect, a device includes a base, a substrate, and an enclosure. The substrate is in contact with a first surface of the base. The substrate and the base define a root chamber. The enclosure is in contact with a second surface of the base. The base and the enclosure define a growth chamber. The base defines a stem port connecting the root chamber and the growth chamber. The base further defines a first port in fluid communication with the root chamber and a second port in fluid communication with the root chamber. The device is operable to contain a plant, roots of the plant being in the root chamber, a stem of the plant passing through the stem port, and leaves of the plant being in the growth chamber.

  • Publication number: 20200385663
Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatus related to the determination of ecological processes. In one aspect, a device includes a base and a substrate in contact with a first side of the base. The base defines a stem port. The substrate and the first side of the base define a chamber. The chamber includes a root chamber and a first nutrient chamber. The root chamber and the first nutrient chamber are separated by a first mesh having openings of about 1 micron to 300 microns. The device is operable to house a plant, with roots of the plant being in the root chamber, and a stem of the plant passing through the stem port.

  • Patent number: 9125596
Abstract: Several embodiments described herein are drawn to methods of identifying an analyte on a subject's skin, methods of generating a fingerprint, methods of determining a physiological change in a subject, methods of diagnosing health status of a subject, and assay systems for detecting an analyte and generating a fingerprint, by nanostructure-initiator mass spectrometry (NIMS).

  • Publication number: 20080128608
Abstract: A substrate for use in providing an ionized target comprising a structured substrate has a plurality of recesses, at least a portion of the plurality of recesses containing an initiator, the substrate being capable of having a target loaded on it. In one methods, irradiation of the substrate can cause the initiator to restructure, releasing it from the recesses and thereby desorbing and ionizing the target. The target so desorbed and ionized can be detected by mass analyzers. The mass of the targets at a given point on the surface can be recorded to provide a spatial mapping of the targets on the surface.
