Trevor Carlisle has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 9687840
Abstract: The invention includes compositions comprising curable imidazolium-functionalized poly(room-temperature ionic liquid) copolymers and homopolymers. The invention further includes methods of preparing and using the compositions of the invention. The invention further includes novel methods of preparing thin, supported, room-temperature ionic liquid-containing polymeric films on a porous support. In certain embodiments, the methods of the invention avoid the use of a gutter layer, which greatly reduces the overall gas permeance and selectivity of the composite membrane. In other embodiments, the films of the invention have increased gas selectivity and permeance over films prepared using methods described in the prior art.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 9, 2013
Date of Patent: June 27, 2017
Assignee: The Regents of the University of Colorado, a body corporate
Inventors: Douglas Gin, Trevor Carlisle, Richard Noble, Garret Nicodemus, William McDanel, Matthew Cowan

  • Patent number: 4117524
Abstract: A current-limiting device for an alternating current system has for each phase a pair of saturable reactors each with an iron core, an alternating current winding and a superconducting direct current bias winding which is common to the reactor cores and biases them both to saturation. The two alternating current windings in each phase are connected in series opposition such that under fault conditions they are driven out of saturation on alternate half-cycles and thus limit the overload current. The superconducting winding has a surrounding magnetic flux screen which also forms a loop for shunting alternating current under fault conditions and which may be used as a direct current control circuit for varying the bias level. The screen serves as the outer vessel of an evacuated enclosure for the superconducting winding and a suppot system for the inner vessel is also described.

  • Patent number: 4045716
Abstract: Method and equipment for transferring energy to or from a direct-current superconducting field coil to change the magnetic field generated by the coil in which a second direct-current superconducting coil is used as a storage coil, and energy transfer between the field coil and the storage coil is effected automatically in dependence upon a control programe. Preferably, the control programe acts upon a variable transformer which is coupled by respective rectifier/inverters to the field and storage coils and also serves for initial supply of energy to the coils.
