Abstract: A system and method for monitoring the proximity of personal articles. The system includes at least one wireless tracking device affixable to at least one portable article to be monitored, and two portable master wireless communication devices, a first master communication device that determines when the tracking device is outside of a first operating range, and a second master communication device that determines when the tracking device is outside a second operating range. The first master communication device and the second master communications devices are operable to communicate with each other to determine whether the first master communication device and the second master communication device are within a predetermined master range. At least one of the first master communication device and the second master communication device is operable to generate an alarm if the first master communications and the second master communication device are not within the predetermined master range.
