  • Patent number: 7678367
Abstract: A method for reducing odor is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises forming a coordination complex between particles having a positive zeta potential and a transition metal. The method further comprises contacting the coordination complex with an odorous compound, the transition metal providing one or more active sites for capturing the odorous compound. For example, in one embodiment, the particles are formed from alumina-coated silica. In addition, the coordination complex may be formed using a bifunctional chelating agent.

  • Publication number: 20090155327
Abstract: A wipe that includes a bacteriostatic agent that contains cations having an affinity for the negatively charged cell walls of bacteria is provided. The affinity of the bacteriostatic agent for the bacteria allows the wipe to capture bacteria, thereby removing them from a surface and also inhibiting their spread to other surfaces that may contact the wipe. Of particular advantage, the bacteriostatic agent may help protect against the spread or infection of pathogens without the use of chemicals, such as antiseptics or antibiotics. Still further, the wipe of the present invention also contains a solvatochromatic indicator that undergoes a color change in the presence of a broad spectrum of bacteria. Thus, when the wipe captures bacteria, the indicator undergoes a color change that signals to the user that the wipe is functioning properly. The lack of a color change may likewise provide the user with the assurance that the area is generally free of bacteria and clean.

  • Publication number: 20090155197
Abstract: A skin sealant composition having a film former like cyanoacrylate and a goniochromic dye or pigment is provided. The addition of mica/metal oxide powders to the sealant formulation makes it possible to see where it has been applied, due to the mica/metal oxide's goniochromic (e.g. irridescent or pearlescent) appearance, and it is also still possible to view the underlying skin, especially from an angle at which the color is less apparent. Thus, mica/titanium dioxide or other goniochromic or light interfering particles may be used as an additive to allow for determination of complete coverage, while not significantly obscuring the incision site.

  • Publication number: 20090054859
Abstract: A method for reducing odor is provided. In one embodiment, the method comprises modifying the surface of silica particles with a transition metal so that the silica particles are bonded to the transition metal through a covalent or coordinate bond. The method further comprises contacting the modified silica particles with an odorous compound, the transition metal facilitating the capture of the odorous compound.

  • Publication number: 20080145269
Abstract: A deodorizing container for the disposal of absorbent articles, such as sanitary napkins, diapers, wipes, etc., is provided. More specifically, the container includes an odor control ink that contains a plurality of nanoparticles modified with a transition metal. It is believed that the modified nanoparticles are capable of adsorbing malodorous compounds commonly associated with biological fluids (e.g., menses, urine, etc.).

  • Publication number: 20080145267
Abstract: A wiping product is disclosed containing an odor control agent. In one embodiment, the wipe may comprise a pre-moistened wipe containing a wiping solution. The wiping solution can contain the odor control agent. The odor control agent may comprise inorganic oxide particles, quinone compounds, or activated carbon particles. The odor control agent can be present in the wipe and can be configured to transfer to an opposing surface. In one embodiment, the pre-moistened wipe can be used during diaper changing to reduce malodors given off by the diaper after being discarded.

  • Publication number: 20080147028
Abstract: A deodorizing release liner for use in absorbent articles, such as sanitary napkins, is provided. More specifically, one or more surfaces of the release liner are coated with an ink that contains an odor control agent capable of reducing odor associated with a bodily fluid (e.g., menses, urine, etc.). The release liner is initially positioned adjacent to an adhesive located on the absorbent article. To use the absorbent article, the liner may be peeled away from the adhesive and then discarded, either alone or in conjunction with a used absorbent article (e.g., in a container).

  • Patent number: 7132093
Abstract: The oxide materials are of the class of ternary mesoporous mixed oxide materials including lanthanum, a metal M selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn, and zirconium or cerium such a mesoporous La—Co—Zr mixed oxide material designated as Meso LCZ[x] where x is the atomic ratio (La+Co)/La+Co+Zr. They are useful as catalysts since they show high activities for hydrocarbon oxidation and good resistance against poisoning agents. These highly ordered mesoporous mixed oxides are synthesized by: preparing an amorphous solution of a La-M precursor and adding a salt of zirconium or cerium thereto; acidifying the amorphous solution in the presence of a surfactant under conditions to obtain a clear homogeneous solution; adjusting pH of the solution under conditions to form a solid precipitate; separating the solution and surfactant from the precipitate; and calcinating the precipitate.

  • Publication number: 20040022710
Abstract: This invention relates to ternary mesoporous mixed oxide materials which comprise lanthanum, a metal M selected from the group consisting of Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn, and zirconium or cerium. The mesoporous mixed oxides of the present invention are a new class of SO2 resistant catalysts for hydrocarbon oxidation. They are characterized by having substantially uniform pore size, high surface area, high component dispersion, and nano-crystalline channel walls after calcinating at a temperature superior to 450° C., having high activities for hydrocarbon oxidation, and good resistance against poisoning agents. This invention also relates to a method for preparing these mesoporous mixed oxide materials.

  • Patent number: 6669924
Abstract: The invention relates to a mesoporous zeolitic material having a stereoregular arrangement of uniformly-sized mesopores with diameters ranging from 20 to 500 Å and walls having a microporous nanocrystalline structure. The mesopore walls have a stereoregular arrangement of uniformly-sized micropores with diameters less than 15 Å. The mesoporous zeolite material according to the invention displays both the catalytic properties associated with zeolites containing strong Brönsted acid sites and the large mesopore surface area associated with mesoporous molecular sieves.
