  • Patent number: 7051875
Abstract: A curved screwstrip comprising in combination a plastic holding strap and a plurality of threaded fasteners. The plastic holding strap has a greater mass in its top half than in its bottom half so that shrinking after extrusion will tend to have the holding strap adopt a preferred curved configuration.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 17, 2003
Date of Patent: May 30, 2006
    Assignee: Simpson Strong-Tie Company, Inc.
Inventors: G. Lyle Habermehl, Troy D. Hale, William S. Kepley
  • Patent number: 6941847
Abstract: A novel workpiece engaging nose body for holding a screwstrip having screws held in a strap is provided. The workpiece engaging nose body includes a nose portion and a rear portion with the nose portion slidably mounted on the rear portion for movement rearwardly when the nose is urged into a workpiece to drive a screw. An exitway is defined between the nose portion and rear portion through which spent strap from which screws have been driven exit the nose body. On urging the nose body into the workpiece, the nose portion slides rearwardly to engage the strap in the exitway and move it rearwardly into engagement with the rear portion in the exitway. The strap is preferably “pinched” in the exitway between the nose portion and rear portion to assist in locating a screw to be driven from the nose body.

  • Patent number: 6494322
Abstract: A plastic screwstrip has a holding strip carrying a plurality of screws in a side-by-side relation as adapted for feeding, into an autofeed screwdriver. To assist in identifying which of two distal ends of the screwstrip are to be fed into the screwdriver and to assist in guiding the entry of the holding strip therein, a guide section of the holding strip forward of the first screw to be driven is provided at its front lead end with an arrow shaped forwardmost portion.

  • Patent number: 6439085
Abstract: A blocking and/or advance pawl mechanism for an autofeed fastener driving tool with at least one of the pawl arms maintained rearward of a next fastener to be driven from a strip holding fasteners spaced in a row.

  • Patent number: 6074149
Abstract: A threaded fastener having a threaded shank with threads on a forward portion of the shank near the tip of greater size than threads on a rear portion of the shank. A collated screwstrip comprising a plastic holding strap holding a plurality of such fasteners in a row in spaced side-by-side relation with the holding strap in threaded engagement with the smaller rear thread portion of each fastener.

  • Patent number: 5927163
Abstract: This invention provides a driver attachment for a collated screwstrip in which a slide body is slidable in a housing parallel a longitudinal axis about which drive shaft is rotatable. The slide body has a nose portion. A screw feed activation mechanism coupled between the housing and the slide body translates relative sliding movement and positioning of the slide body relative the housing. The nose portion includes a channel to guide a collated screwstrip generally transversely to the longitudinal axis of the drive shaft. The nose portion includes a guide mechanism to locate each successive screw advanced through the channel into axial alignment with the drive shaft for engagement therewith. A strip carrying screws is advanced into the guideway via an entranceway and the spent strip from which the screws have been driven exits from the guideway via an exitway which encircles the spent strip.

  • Patent number: 5758768
Abstract: A collated screwstrip comprising a plastic holding strip and a plurality of threaded fasteners with the holding strip holding the fasteners in a row in spaced side by side relation. The holding strip comprises a web member extending axially relative the screws and between screws. A reinforcing rib is disposed centrally on a side of the web member outboard of the screws which rib has a constant cross-sectional shape and size throughout the length of the holding strip and has a height less than that of the web member.
