  • Patent number: 8287547
Abstract: A drill guide for use with an orthopaedic drilling device includes a base and a sleeve movably coupled to the base. The base is configured to be coupled to a surgically-prepared surface of a patient's bone and includes cylindrical body defining a passageway therethrough and a pin coupled to the body. The sleeve includes a slot and the pin of the base is received through the slot of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 7896881
Abstract: An acetabular reamer is provided. The acetabular reamer includes a body having a peripheral surface. The peripheral surface is defined by a radius extending from an origin. The body defines an axis of rotation of the body. The body defines an end surface operably connected to peripheral surface of the body. The body further defines a relief surface spaced from the axis of rotation and operably connected to peripheral surface. The acetabular reamer also includes a cutter operably associated with the body for reaming a portion of the acetabulum and a support structure secured to the relief surface.

  • Patent number: 7670344
Abstract: A finely-adjustable resection guide has two bodies pivotally connected to each other. One of the bodies has a plurality of threaded through-bores extending in perpendicular directions through the body. Two thumbscrews extend through the threaded through-bores. The thumbscrews can translate linearly with respect to the body as they are turned. A cutting block is pivotally connected to the body that has the thumbscrews. Linear translation of one of the thumbscrews causes the cutting guide surface of the cutting block to pivot about one axis and linear translation of the other thumbscrew causes the cutting guide surface to pivot about another axis that is perpendicular to the first axis. A third threaded member is provided to adjust the proximal-distal position of the cutting guide surface.

  • Publication number: 20080027449
Abstract: Adapters for oscillating bone saws as well as bone drills are provided to convert the output motion of the bone saws and the bone drills. The adapters may convert oscillating motion of the bone saws to a modified oscillating motion or to an orbital motion. The adapters may also convert rotational motion of the bone drills to an orbital motion.

  • Patent number: 6663670
Abstract: A long bone prosthesis includes upper and lower articulating components, with the free ends of the components configured to engage a corresponding prosthetic joint. The overall length of the articulating components is adjustable to approximate the length of a patient's long bone, such as the humerus. The articulating components include a stem and collet arrangement for fixing the relative axial and rotational position of the components. A tapered lock nut is threaded onto the outer threaded surface of the collet portion to provide a pressure engagement of the articulating elements. Various surface features can be implemented among the components of the prosthesis to enhance the pressure fixation, restrict rotation or provide indexed movement of the articulating components relative to each other.

  • Patent number: 5938665
Abstract: An instrument is provided in accordance with the present invention for guiding the resection of the bone. Instrument includes a saw guide formed to include a slot. The slot is defined by an upper guide surface and lower guide surface. Guide surfaces are intermittent surfaces to provide a low-friction saw guide surface. Guide surfaces form waves, the upper surfaces of which lie in a common plane.

  • Patent number: 5536271
Abstract: A system is disclosed for preparing a natural patella for implantation of a patellar prosthesis. Substantially the same amount of bone removed from the natural patella is replaced by the prosthesis so that the reconstructed patella will replicate the natural one in diameter and thickness. To this end, the patella is held stationary and two operations are performed simultaneously. First, a posterior side of the patella is resected to form a prosthesis receiving surface for reception of a fixation surface of the patellar prosthesis. Second, a mounting bore is formed into the resected surface of the patella for reception of fixation members of the patellar prosthesis. A reamer is guided for movement between a first position spaced from the posterior surface of the patella and a second position in operative engagement with the patella at which formation of both the receiving surface and of the mounting bore therein has been completed.
