Abstract: An architecture for universal data communication between a network client and a web server. A web server receives a character string from the network client for storing. The web server encodes and then stores the string. Any character that is not a 7 bit ASCII character is encoded by encapsulating it with an escape code, the escape code comprised of an illegal character. Upon a request to retrieve the encoded string, the web server decodes and converts to UTF8 the encoded character string. When a client or browser requests the folder or document containing the encoded string, the string is properly displayed in the client's or browser's native language.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically configuring page numbers. A user is prompted for pagination data, including page number, pagination formatting, and pagination location for each page of a rendition of a document, via a thin client interface on a workstation. A document image data file comprising a bitmapped electronic document associated with the pagination data is then retrieved. An object file is populated with numbering data specified by the pagination data. The object and document files are communicated to a document rendering device that processes the object file to generate bitmapped pagination content. A merged file is created from bitmapped content of the image file and pagination content from the object file. A document output is generated from the merged file having viewable content including the content of the document data image file and the populated object file. The document output is communicated to the rendering device for rendering.

Notification data is received from a networked document processing device, which indicates the presence on the network of the document processing device. Accounting data is then communicated to the networked document processing device in response to the notification data. The accounting data facilitates the administration of costs associated with the usage of the networked document processing device. Cost data is then received from the networked document processing device representing the accumulated costs associated with the usage of the document processing device. The cost data is accumulated according to the received accounting data by the networked document processing device.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for a printer driver to retrieve information from a printer mapped to a printer server. A printer driver residing on a client machine searches for all printers accessible by the client machine. A user is then prompted to select one of the printers discovered. The client machine then stores the printer IP address and the printer network path information in the registry. The actual port of the discovered printer is then ascertained using the information garnished from the printer server and the information stored in the client machine registry. The printer driver then communicates directly with the printer using the printer IP address and the network path. The system of the present invention utilizes two software components for searching and storing the printer IP address and the printer network path.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for implementing a pointer-based clipboard. The clipboard system comprises a plurality of information or description files for storing information about files that are edited, in addition to files for storing information relating to changes made to a document and to locations of temporary files relating to the document. In addition, the system employs temporary storage which is preferably deleted upon session termination.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for creating customized, multimedia greeting cards via a kiosk. Template data, associated with greeting card templates, and multimedia data files are first stored in an associated data storage. Indicia are then generated on an associated display corresponding to the greeting card templates. Selection data is received corresponding to a selected greeting card template and a multimedia file is associated with the selected greeting card template. Customization data corresponding to user selected content associated with the selected greeting card template is then received. A greeting card output is thereafter generated in accordance with the received selection data, customization data, and the associated multimedia data file.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for generating gift cards. Image data representing gift card formats is first generated on an associated display. A gift card is then selected and text data is received representing text associated with the selected gift card. Gift amount data is then received representing a fungible value associated with the selected gift card. Charge data associated with a cost associated with the gift amount is then received. Encoded data, corresponding to the gift amount, is then generated. Thereafter, a tangible gift card is generated in accordance with the selected gift card format and the received text. In accordance with one embodiment of the subject application, the encoded data is stored on a tangible medium on the tangible gift card.

The system and method also comprises at least one session tracking application associated with an interactive session. The session tracking application includes monitoring means adapted for monitoring activity on the associated interactive session and testing means adapted for determining whether monitored activity includes an unload event. Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for automatically and continuously updating a printer driver configuration. A first computer program residing on a controller, which acts to monitor the printer configuration, is activated. The printer configuration is read from the controller configuration and updates the DEVMODE data. The detection of a change in any attribute of the printer configuration causes a second program to activate. DEVMODE data is updated using a data layout described in an XML file. The data layout in the XML file will be packaged with the controller during building, as well as being available on a CD-ROM or other portable device, or stored on a central location and accessed over a computer network for the updating printer drivers on the controller when new versions are released. The second program retrieves current printer configuration data using SNMP communications and writes this data to the registry.
