  • Publication number: 20120008321
Abstract: The structural wall of a luminaire has one or more light source retention cavities for holding area light sources such as OLED panels, and a wire chase or chases that extend from one light source cavity to another light source cavity in the structural wall, and/or from a light source cavity to a wire feed point for the structural wall. The wire chase or chases have a wire retaining bottom channel and a constricted wire entry opening at the top of the wire chase that is narrow in relation to the wire retaining bottom channel for capturing the wires therein. In another aspect of the invention, the wire chase or chases can be manufactured as separate parts, which can be inserted into the structural wall of the luminaire.

  • Publication number: 20110273886
Abstract: A luminaire has a shell housing with an upper shell section and a lower shell section that form an interior cavity and at least one side opening through which an observer can see into the interior cavity of the shell housing from a position below the luminaire when the luminaire is positioned overhead the observer. The interior cavity has a lower region which is hidden from the direct line-of-sight of an observer below the luminaire. At least one and suitably a plurality non-revealed upwardly facing area light sources, such as OLEDs, are supported on the lower shell section of the shell housing and disposed in the lower region of the interior cavity thereof so as to produce light within the interior cavity and so as to be hidden from the direct line-of-sight of an observer below the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 7845514
Abstract: The invention relates to tear-back thermoformed high impact polystyrene lids having from at least 10% to about 15% of filler and the specified configuration of the tear-back portion. In particular, the tear back lid comprises a tear back portion defined by two sets of tear back indentations and a left and a right notch cut into a skirt defined by the outer diameter of the lid. The combination of the filler amount and tear-back configuration allows an improved tearability for the filled polystyrene lids.

  • Patent number: 7845821
Abstract: Fluorescent lighting fixture modules for indirect lighting of interior spaces, each module including at least one, and preferably a pair of side-by-side parallel linear indirect fluorescent lighting fixture elements suspended at fixed grid pattern locations beneath the ceiling of the open interior space. Each of the linear indirect lighting fixture elements is preferably no greater than approximately six feet in length with a suitable length being somewhat greater than four feet where a four foot lamp is used. Where the fixture elements are provided in pairs, each is suspended below the ceiling at its fixed grid location by a suitable hanger structure with a preferred overall fixture module width of approximately four feet.

  • Publication number: 20100262234
Abstract: A posterior chamber phakic lens made from an elastomeric, foldable, highly biocompatible and permeable material. The lens has a generally circular optic and a plurality of integrally formed, filament-like haptics. The haptics project posteriorly from the optic and contain a raised feature or ridge that is sandwiched between the posterior iris and the zonules when implanted in an eye. Such a construction has a low vaulting force under compression, is size insensitive, provides for a stable lens once implanted in the eye, helps to avoid pupillary blockage and allows for improved aqueous flow around the natural lens.

  • Patent number: 7756981
Abstract: A user agent residing within a remote client and configured to enforce message protocol policy is disclosed. The user agent includes a communications monitoring element that examines a communications connection between the client and an external message server to determine if the message server matches a restricted server attribute. The user agent also includes a communications controller element that works with the communications monitoring element to block communications between the client and the message server when the message server matches a restricted server attribute unless the communications are monitored by a protocol inspection gateway.

  • Publication number: 20090318311
Abstract: A method of determining common three-dimensional structural features of protein surfaces is provided, as is use of representations of these common structures in molecular database searching and in designing focused molecular libraries. The method is particularly concerned with the analysis and representation of protein surfaces such as b-turns, loops and contact surfaces. In one form, the method identifies common locations and orientations of amino acid side-chains, simplified as C?-C? vectors. In another form, the method identifies common regions of surface charge represented by grid points in three-dimensional space. Further provided are common three dimensional structural features of proteins that can be used to search molecular databases for the purposes of identifying molecules that match these common three dimensional structural features.

  • Publication number: 20090204209
Abstract: A two-optic accommodative lens system. The first lens has a negative power and is located posteriorly within the capsular bag and lying against the posterior capsule. The periphery of the first lens is attached to a ring-like structure having sloping sides. The second lens is located anteriorly to the first lens within of the capsular bag and is of a positive power. The peripheral edge of the second lens contains a plurality of haptics that project posteriorly from the second lens and toward the first lens. The haptics are relatively firm, yet still flexible and ride within the sloping sides of the ring-like structure, so that flattening or steepening of the capsule in reaction to movement of the ciliary muscle and corresponding shrinkage of the capsular bag causes the second lens to move along the optical axis of the lens system.

  • Publication number: 20090002978
Abstract: A linear lighting system has a spinal structure or spine 11 and one or more elongated optical shade assemblies 13 attachable to the spinal wherein the spinal structure can be installed at a job site separately from the shade assemblies. The optical shade assemblies contain all of the more delicate optical components of the lighting system, such as a reflector 19 and diffuser cover 21, and can be shipped and handled separately from the more durable spinal structure of the lighting system, which includes system components such as lamp sockets 15, ballasts 18, and socket and ballast wiring. The spine includes multi-function bracket structures 35, 36, 80 which support the lamp sockets and which allow for the suspension, hanging or mounting of the spine and the joining of spine sections together in a continuous run.

  • Publication number: 20080269881
Abstract: Asymmetric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are disclosed in which the centration of the optic and the pupil can be adjusted in order to reduce dsyphotopsia and/or the perception of dark shadows. For example, IOLs with uneven haptics are disclosed such that the center of the optic (i.e., the optical axis) is offset from a centerline of the overall device.
