Publication number: 20250036279Abstract: A target computing device includes a storage device, a target port, and firmware. The target port is connectable to a host port of a host computing device. The firmware is to operate the target computing device in an external storage access mode in which the storage device is externally accessible without the target computing device fully operating. The host computing device accesses via the host port the storage device as an external storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2021Publication date: January 30, 2025Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Tsue-Yi Huang, Chia-Cheng Lin, Thong Thai, Chao-Shen Chen

Patent number: 12147541Abstract: Techniques for secure boot up of unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) compliant devices are described. In an example, execution of a driver associated with a hardware component of a computing device may be detected during booting of the computing device. Based on the detection, a first driver hash of a system table of the UEFI may be computed, where the system table is a data structure that stores configuration details of the computing device and UEFI services. Thereafter, a second driver hash of the system table may be computed based on detection of completion of the execution of the driver. The first driver hash and the second driver hash may then be compared to determine tampering with the system table of the UEFI.Type: GrantFiled: June 8, 2020Date of Patent: November 19, 2024Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Kang-Ning Feng, Tsue-Yi Huang, Chin-Hung Chao

Publication number: 20240289135Abstract: In an example, in response to detecting a connection with a host computing made with a data and/or power delivery cable, a display device can present BIOS settings obtained from the host computing device via an on-screen display (OSD) of the display device and transmit inputs to the BIOS settings made via the OSD to the host computing device via the connection. Once received, the host computing device can store the inputs to the BIOS settings in a memory shared with an embedded controller (EC) of the host computing device. The EC can affect certain BIOS settings from the shared memory until the BIOS accesses the BIOS setting inputs from the shared memory and formally implement them during a subsequent, later reboot.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2023Publication date: August 29, 2024Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Yan-Heng Chen, Hung Lung Chen, Tsue-Yi Huang

Publication number: 20230359775Abstract: In an example in accordance with the present disclosure, a compute device is described. The compute device includes a host controller to 1) receive identification data of peripheral devices coupled to a computing dock and 2) compare the identification data with values stored in a database. A stored value indicates a combination of peripheral devices previously coupled to the computing dock. The compute device also includes a device connection controller to, responsive to the identification data matching a stored value, retrieve operational data for the peripheral devices from the database. The device connection controller is also to connect the compute device with the peripheral devices based on operational data retrieved from the database.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2020Publication date: November 9, 2023Applicant: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Tsue-Yi Huang, Kang-Ning Feng, Chia-Cheng Lin, Chao-Shen Chen
