    Abstract: There is disclosed a sliding member which slidably contacts an counterpart member with friction and in which a friction force is varied without changing a contact pressure. A sliding member 11 is formed by covering a steel plate with sliding materials 13a to 13e different in friction coefficient. In this case, when a sliding direction of the counterpart member 14 is set to directions of arrows A and B, a sliding material 13a of a low friction coefficient is disposed in the middle, and the sliding materials 13b to 13e are arranged so that the friction coefficient gradually increases toward both terminal sides in the directions of arrows A and B of the sliding material 13a. According to the sliding member 11, the friction force increases as the counterpart member 14 moves in the directions of arrows A and B from the middle.

    Abstract: There is provided a copper-based sliding alloy excellent in wear resistance and anti-seizure property. A phase of 2 to 30 wt. % lead is dispersed in the copper alloy. This lead phase contains 0.1 to 6 vol. % hard particles such as SiC, SiO2, Si3N4, Al2O3, TiC, WC and TiN having an average particle size of 5 to 25 &mgr;m. Because hard particles are included in the lead phase, wear resistance is excellent and anti-seizure property is improved. The lead phase, which is soft, serves as a cushion and the attack on a mating member by hard particles is reduced. Further, the falling-off of lead is minimized because the lead phase also includes the hard particles.

    Abstract: An end bearing used in an automatic transmission gear having a one-way clutch mechanism having multi-layers comprising a back metal, a copper alloy layer, a tin layer having a thickness of 0.5 to 4 .mu.m and a Cu-Sn intermetallic compound layer having a thickness of 0.5 to 4 .mu.m and having a Microvickers hardness of from 400 to 700, which intermetallic compound layer is positioned just under the tin layer and which intermetalic compound layer is are formed on the copper alloy of such an end bearing. According to the present invention, it is possible to improve anti-seizure characteristics of an end bearing even under a condition of a decrease in the amount of oil supply which decrease occurs in higher engine speed, thus enabling the provision of an end bearing having superior anti-seizure characteristics.

    Abstract: A multi-layer bearing consists of a backing steel plate, a layer of Cu--Pb bearing alloy comprising, by weight, 1 to 20% of Ni and containing Pb-phase grains dispersed in the matrix, and an overlay of Pb alloy containing In. In in the overlay is diffused into the Pb-phase grains in the bearing alloy layer and forms a diffusion layer of high corrosion resistance in which In coexists with the Pb-phase grains, in an area of 30 to 200 .mu.m from the interface to the overlay. Even if the overlay is worn and the Cu--Pb bearing alloy layer is exposed, high corrosion resistance will be maintained.

    Abstract: A copper-alloy slide bearing for a low-rigidity housing having a three-layer structure of a steel back-metal, a copper-alloy layer and an overlay, the back metal containing 0.03 to 0.26% by weight of carbon. During the production of the slide bearing, a bimetal is prepared in such a manner that a back-metal portion is rolled at a total rolling reduction of 10 to 35%, and the resultant bimetal is heat-treated at a relatively low temperature, so that the slide bearing includes a back metal having a 0.01% elastic limit of not less than 300 N/mm.sup.2. When the copper-alloy slide bearing is used in a low-rigidity housing of an internal combustion engine, the slide bearing is capable of more excellently following the deformation of the housing, as well as capable of providing more excellent intimate contact and more excellent fretting resistance, than a conventional multi-layer slide bearing.

    Abstract: A copper alloy sliding bearing of a three-layer structure comprises a steel back metal layer of a high strength, a copper alloy layer, and an overlay. The steel back metal layer contains 0.15-0.26% by weight of carbon, and the steel back metal layer has a 0.2% yield strength of not less than 440 N/mm.sup.2. With this structure, even under severe conditions of use in an internal combustion engine of a high-speed design, in which an increased inertia force is applied to the housing, the followability of the bearing relative to the deformation of the housing is enhanced, and the bearing performance such as an anti-fretting property and an anti-seizure property is excellent.

In a modified form of the alloy layer, not more than 20% Pb, not more than 1% P or not more than 12% Ni may be added. MoS.sub.2 powder may be coated with Cu or Ni.

    Abstract: The sliding member of the invention comprises a steel backing and a sintered Cu-alloy layer mounted integrally on one surface of the backing metal, wherein the sintered Cu-alloy comprises 1 to 15% Sn, 1 to 20% Ni-B compound, 1% or less phosphorus, and the balance of Cu and impurities. Cu-alloy may further contain 1 to 30% Pb and/or 0.5 to 8% graphite. Pb and graphite provide the sliding alloy layer with good lubrication property. Preferably the Ni-B compound is used, which is composed of 7 to 15% B and the balance of Ni and impurities.
