  • Patent number: 4897513
Abstract: A rotary switch has a synthetic resin substrate on the surface of which a plurality of fixed contacts are arranged in a concentric fashion, and a holder rotatable over the expanse of the substrate, including the fixed contacts. A conductor plate supported to the holder is formed with swelled contacts which act as movable contacts. A rib is positioned so that the conductor plate contacts the rib when the switch is in the off position, thereby lifting the movable contacts from the surface of the substrate. A substantially hour glass shaped slit is used to separate and insulate the fixed contacts. The wide portions of the slit act as reservoirs for conductive wearing powder, thereby delaying a short circuit due to wearing powder accumulation. Thus, the switch alleviates wear of the movable contacts and enhances switching accuracy.

  • Patent number: 4658236
Abstract: A compact automatic signal cancelling apparatus for a direction indicator mounted on a motorcycle, engine driven bicycle or like vehicle is housed in a cylindrical member which is fixedly secured to the handlebar. A variable resistor is incorporated in the apparatus for detecting an angle of turning movement of the handlebar and its rotary shaft is connected to the body or frame of the motorcycle which serves as a reference point for the apparatus. As the handlebar is turned by the driver on the motorcycle, the apparatus in the cylindrical member is rotated while the rotary shaft of the variable resistor is kept immobable. The angle of turning movement of the handlebar is detected by the change in resistance value of the variable resistor, which is transmitted to a control circuit. The control circuit automatically turns on or off the signal on the direction indicator in response to detection of the change in resisting value of the variable resistance.

  • Patent number: 4652850
Abstract: A potentiometer which can be used for measurement of angles includes an enclosure made of insulating material. The enclosure has a positioning portion comprising a pair of grooves to guide a resistance base plate into the enclosure. The enclosure is provided with a recess extending perpendicular to the plane of the base plate to rotatably receive the shaft portion of a sliding member. This sliding member further includes a slider which is brought into sliding contact with electrodes formed on the base plate. This produces a change in the resistance of a resistance member formed on the base plate.

  • Patent number: 4218594
Abstract: A switch having a small thickness and constructed easily from a reduced number of parts comprises two complementary molded switch case members, each of which has fixed contacts with terminals integrally formed therewith and a common contact with a terminal integrally formed therewith. An operation member consisting of a disc portion and a stopper portion integrally formed therewith is provided between the case members and movable contacts having contact projections on their outer surfaces are secured to respective side surfaces of the disc portion of the operation member. A shaft member passes through the case members, the movable contacts and the operation member and is held in place with a fastener member. The upper portions of the case members are formed so as to define a slot therebetween which restricts rotary movement of the stopper portion projecting from the operation member.

  • Patent number: 4200773
Abstract: A switch of an extremely small thickness is made of a reduced number of parts and can be easily assembled. The switch comprises a pair of complementary case members each of which has a plurality of fixed contacts having integrally formed terminals and a common fixed contact having an integrally formed terminal; and an operation member having a lever portion, and a disc portion disposed between the case members. The operation member is provided on its outer faces with identically shaped movable contact members having contacts on the outer surfaces thereof. The upper ends of the case members define a slot form which the lever portion of the operation member is upwardly projected, and the movement of the lever portion is restricted by the slot. The operation member is securely supported in the case members by horizontal fastener members extended from both faces of the former to the outer surfaces of the latter.
