Publication number: 20070086276Abstract: There is provided a multifunction timepiece wherein the visibility of pointers can be improved, and increases in the thickness of the timepiece can be reduced. This timepiece comprises a dial, an hour hand, a minute hand, a pointer, and a movement. The dial has a dial cover and a time display section on the inner periphery thereof. The hour hand is mounted on the time display section and has an hour hand rotating shaft disposed at a different position from the center position of the time display section. The minute hand is mounted on the time display section and has a minute hand rotating shaft disposed at a different position from the center position of the time display section. The pointer is mounted on the time display section and has a pointer rotating shaft. The dimension A from the pointer rotating shaft to the tip of the pointer is greater than the dimension B from the minute hand rotating shaft to the tip of the minute hand.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2006Publication date: April 19, 2007Applicant: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Tsuneaki Furukawa, Eiichi Nagasaka, Koji Fukui

Patent number: 6567345Abstract: A timepiece has an ordinary time measuring section including an ordinary time display unit for measuring an ordinary time and time information (i.e., chronograph) measuring sections including chronograph displays for measuring time information other than the ordinary time (i.e., chronograph information). The timepiece is configured such that the ordinary time display unit and the chronograph display units, are disposed on a display surface of the timepiece without overlapping each other.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2000Date of Patent: May 20, 2003Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Tsuneaki Furukawa, Nobuhiro Koike, Eiichi Hiraya, Akihiko Maruyama

Patent number: 6476579Abstract: A pulse motor driving device having a rotation detecting unit adapted to detect whether or not a pulse motor rotates. In this device, a control unit performs an operation of increasing the effective value of the driving power of the pulse motor and periodically performs an operation of lowering the effective value of the driving power thereof when it is detected by the rotation detecting unit that the pulse motor does not rotate. Further, the control unit interrupts the operation of lowering the effective value of the driving power of the pulse motor when a magnetic field is detected by a magnetic detecting unit.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 2000Date of Patent: November 5, 2002Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Hidehiro Akahane, Shinji Nakamiya, Yoshitaka Iijima, Kenji Iida, Tsuneaki Furukawa

Patent number: 5610468Abstract: An ultrasonic step motor includes a stator and a rotor. A vibrator is mounted on the stator and a driving mechanism excites the vibrator causing the stator to induce a vibrating mode on the rotor. The rotor has a vibration mode in a selected direction and the stator exhibits a plurality of vibrating states which are changed in a time sequential manner. The vibrating states of the stator include a composite vibration of a travelling wave formed from two standing wave vibrations and a standing wave vibration. The rotor is formed of a non-uniform rigidity and mass distribution and the stator is formed with relief portions formed therein corresponding to loops of a standing wave vibration and projections corresponding to the nodes of the standing wave vibration.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 1993Date of Patent: March 11, 1997Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Osamu Miyazawa, Tsuneaki Furukawa, Jouji Kitahara

Patent number: 5237237Abstract: An ultrasonic motor comprising a rotor and a stator driven by a piezoelectric element is disclosed. The rotor includes a plurality of gaps which correspond to periods in which piezoelectric sub-element rows are formed. A plurality of level differences on the surface of the stator have rotational symmetry in prescribed periods. Standing waves generated on the stator exert stress on the level differences of non-contact areas of the rotor so as to provide for rotor rest at a relative position where the stress becomes balanced. Stepping operation of the rotor is achieved by movement of the standing waves employing a plurality of level differences with rotational symmetry. The positions where the stress becomes balanced always occur at the same interval thereby facilitating precise stepping operation.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 1991Date of Patent: August 17, 1993Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventors: Tomoo Ueda, Osamu Miyazawa, Joji Kitahara, Tsuneaki Furukawa
