  • Patent number: 6416262
Abstract: A bevel gear is generated using an annular milling cutter having a blade material made of a high-speed tool steel mounted to a main body, the blade material being coated with at least one layer of a film of a composition substantially comprising (Ti(1−x)Alx)(NyC(1−y)) (where, 0.2≦x≦0.85, 0.2≦y≦1.0), and dry cutting is performed at a cutting speed in the range from 20 to 400m/min without using a cutting oil. With this method, teeth can be generated at a greatly improved cutting speed without using any expensive tool such as cemented carbide, thereby realizing efficient production of a bevel gear at a reduced cost.

  • Patent number: 6116828
Abstract: Gear cutting is to be effected in high efficiency and at low cost. To this end, using a hob 16 coated with at least one layer of a film of a composition comprising:(Ti.sub.(1-x) Al.sub.x)(N.sub.y C.sub.(1-y))0.2.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.850.25.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1.0,dry cutting is performed at a cutting speed in the range of 80 to 400 m/min without using a cutting oil. Teeth can be generated at a greatly improved cutting speed without using any expensive tool such as a tool made of cemented carbide.

  • Patent number: 6065910
Abstract: A gear shaper effects a gear shaper cutting method by dry cutting, using a pinion cutter made of high-speed tool steel at a high efficiency. The pinion cutter of the gear shaper is coated, at least on the flank thereof, with at least one layer of film having a composition comprising: (Ti.sub.(1-x) Al.sub.x)(N.sub.y C.sub.(1-y) ), wherein 0.2.ltoreq.x.ltoreq.0.9 and 0.2.ltoreq.y.ltoreq.1.0. Gear shaper cutting is performed at a cutting speed of 300 m/min or less.

  • Patent number: 5947663
Abstract: A horizontal hobbing machine comprises a bed, a cutting section provided on the bed and including at least a horizontal rotary shaft and a hob. The cutting section generates a tooth form on a work piece supported around the rotary shaft by means of the hob. A conveyor is provided in a lower part of the cutting section below the bed to remove chips of the work piece resulting from the cutting process.

  • Patent number: 4799836
Abstract: A side edge surface of a web plate is trimmed by or machined after feeding a milling cutter into the side edge surface of the web plate, which cutter has on its outer peripheral surface cutting edges at a predetermined angle with respect to its rotary axis, and driving the milling cutter in rotation. The rotary axis of the milling cutter is a plane which is kept parallel to a desired machined surface of the side edge surface of the web plate, and the angle formed between the cutting edge of the milling cutter and the side edge surface of the web plate is limited to within 55 degrees to 125 degrees.

Abstract: A side edge surface of a web plate is trimmed or machined after by feeding a milling cutter into the side edge surface of the web plate, which cutter has on its outer peripheral surface cutting edges at a predetermined angle with respect to its rotary axis, and driving the milling cutter in rotation. The rotary axis of the milling cutter is inclined in a plane which is kept parallel to a desired machined surface of the side edge surface of the web plate, and the angle formed between the cutting edge of the milling cutter and the side edge surface of the web plate is limited to within 55 degrees to 125 degrees.

  • Patent number: 4671017
Abstract: A method and apparatus for grinding a roll in a rolling mill on an on-line grinding basis, are improved in that a freely rotatable grinding body such and is a grindstone is pressed against a surface of the roll to be ground as directed in the direction making a predetermined angle with respect to the axis of the roll. The roll is rotated so that the surface of the roll may be ground by a relative slip between the grinding body and the roll caused by their different circumferential velocities.
