    Abstract: In a high-density flexible disk drive, a color of at least a surface of a cover (22) (in addition, a color of at least a surface of an eject button (30)) is different from that of at least a surface of a body of a front panel (20). A user can visually distinguish the high-density flexible disk drive from a normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive in which a color of a surface of a cover is identical with that of a surface of a body of a front panel. Thus, a large-capacity flexible disk can be correctly inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive without being erroneously inserted into the normal-density dedicated flexible disk drive.

    Abstract: A high-density flexible disk drive capable of accessing a large-capacity flexible disk is provided with a large-capacity detecting switch. The large-capacity flexible disk has a case accommodating a magnetic disk medium, with the case being provided with a write protection hole and a single large-capacity identifier hole formed in a vicinity of the write protection hole for distinguishing the large-capacity flexible disk from a small-capacity and a medium-capacity flexible disk. The large-capacity detecting switch of the high-density flexible disk drive is provided at a position corresponding to the large-capacity identifier hole for detecting the large-capacity identifier hole when the large-capacity flexible disk is inserted into the high-density flexible disk drive. In a preferred embodiment, the large-capacity detecting switch is integrally formed in a single unit with a write control switch for detecting open and close states of the write protection hole.

A shutter unit is provided at a cartridge inserting position of the cover unit, the shutter unit being opened and closed appropriately in response to cartridge insertion. The cover unit is provided in an enclosure frame of the disk device. Resilient members are provided between the cover unit and enclosure frame.

The recording disk device further comprises upper and lower subsidiary liners each of which is attached to at least a part of each of the upper and the lower liners so that the magnetic disk medium rotated within the jacket body is interposed between the upper and the lower subsidiary liners with both surfaces of the magnetic disk medium kept in contact with the upper and the lower subsidiary liners. A distance h.sub.1 is less than a distance h.sub.0, where h.sub.1 is the distance between said upper and said lower liners at a periphery of the upper and the lower head windows at least on an upstream side of the upper and the lower head windows with respect to a rotating direction of the magnetic disk medium, and h.sub.0 is the distance between the upper and the lower liners in a remaining area.

The bottom portion is freely inserted in a jacket circular opening of the jacket. The bottom portion has a bottom diameter greater than a medium opening diameter of the medium circular opening. The supporting body has an external diameter which is substantially equal to the bottom diameter of the bottom portion. The supporting body includes a supporting rest for supporting the magnetic recording medium by adhesive bonding at an inner circumferential edge in a lower surface of the magnetic recording medium inside of the bottom portion.

The photointerrupter comprises a light-emitting section and a light-receiving section which are opposed to each other with the scale arranged therebetween. The position detection unit may comprise a magnetic scale and a magnetic sensor. The magnetic scale has a plurality of magnetic poles which extend to a in a direction parallel to with the predetermined radial direction and which are periodically reversed at regular intervals. The magnetic sensor is opposed to the magnetic scale. Preferably, the magnetic sensor may comprise of a magneto-resistive element.

    Abstract: A method of writing servo data onto a high density flexible magnetic disk (7) using a servo writer is disclosed. This method comprises the steps of providing surface rippling prevention means on both sides of the magnetic disk, respectively; rotating the flexible magnetic disk at a rotation speed of 2000 rpm or higher with a spindle motor (3); and writing the servo data onto the flexible magnetic disk with magnetic heads (4). The surface rippling prevention means include soft sheet members (8a, 8b) which are arranged in close proximity to both surfaces of the flexible disk (7) in order to prevent surface rippling of the flexible disk (7) from being caused, thereby improving the accuracy of writing servo data.
