    Abstract: A mechanism for compensating linear velocity differential that has a simple structure and with which it is possible to efficiently compensate difference in linear velocity between conveyance roller pairs. In a case in which a sheet is conveyed by two pairs of conveyance rollers, when the speed (linear velocity) at which the sheet is conveyed by one pair of conveyance rollers disposed downstream in the conveyance direction is higher than the speed at which the sheet is conveyed by the other pair of conveyance rollers disposed upstream, the linear velocity differential causes a tension in the sheet that is applied to the upstream pair of conveyance rollers. Due to this tension, a drive roller is rotated at a higher rotational speed than that of a drive gear, so that engaging prongs of the drive roller are respectively removed from engaging protrusions of the drive gear. Namely, the drive roller rotates and follows the downstream conveyance speed, whereby overload of the sheet is prevented.
