  • Patent number: 4530187
Abstract: A dressing device for a grinding wheel comprises a wheel head for supporting the grinding wheel in a manner adapted for grinding the outer surface of a workpiece; a dressing tool provided to cut into the grinding wheel for dressing the same; a feed motor to feed the dressing tool so as to cut into the grinding wheel; a device for detecting the diameter of the grinding wheel; and a control device which controls the feed motor in response to the output of the detecting device so that the depth of the cut caused by the dressing tool is controlled in accordance with the diameter of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4528781
Abstract: A method of grinding a workpiece for shaping it into a cam by imparting a rotary motion and a rocking motion, which conforms to the profile of a master cam, to the workpiece. In the first rough grinding step, a grinding wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a low velocity. In the second rough grinding step, the grinding wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a velocity greater than the low velocity. In the third rough grinding step, the wheel is rapidly entered into the workpiece while the workpiece is rotated at a high velocity. Each of the three steps includes a step for removing the portion left uncut in such a state that the infeed of the wheel is ceased. The depths of cut in the three steps DS.sub.1, DS.sub.2 and DS.sub.3, respectively, are so set that the following relation holds:DS.sub.1 >DS.sub.2 >DS.sub.

  • Patent number: 4497140
Abstract: A cam grinding machine for grinding a cam in accordance with the profile of a master cam (6). The machine is equipped with an apparatus for substantially compensating lift error of the cam due to grinding wheel wear, said apparatus being provided with a planetary gear mechanism (30) so as to change a large diameter roller (22) contacting the master cam (6) into a small diameter roller (23) when the grinding wheel diameter is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4337599
Abstract: A method of grinding a shoulder portion of a workpiece by a grinding wheel whose edge surface is smaller in width than the shoulder portion of the workpiece. The workpiece is rotated about a first axis and the grinding wheel is rotated about a second axis extending at an acute angle to the first axis. The rotating grinding wheel and the rotating workpiece are first relatively moved to engage the edge surface of the grinding wheel with the radially inner portion of the shoulder portion. The rotating grinding wheel and the rotating workpiece are then relatively moved to move the edge surface of the grinding wheel in a direction substantially perpendicular to and away from the first axis to grind the shoulder portion from the radially inner portion to the radially outer portion thereof by the first grinding surface of the grinding wheel.

  • Patent number: 4214309
Abstract: A numerical controller having a memory device for storing a profiling program composed of a series of data blocks, each of which designates an incremental rotational amount of an oval workpiece and an incremental feed amount of a tool slide, and a digital computer for reading out the data blocks one by one from the memory device when no rough grinding is instructed, so as to provide, based upon a read-out data block, interpolation data of feed pulses which are to be distributed for tool slide feed in connection with feed pulses to be generated for workpiece rotation. In rough grinding, the digital computer reads out a predetermined number of the data blocks and accumulates profiling data included therein so as to provide interpolation data based upon the accumulated profiling data, thereby shortening processing time for providing the interpolation data in rough grinding.
