  • Patent number: 7531990
Abstract: An apparatus and method for detecting total voltage of an assembled battery including a number of serially-connected electric cells. Voltages of the respective cells are detected and added up, correlation between the resulting total voltage and a total voltage obtained by detecting the voltage of the assembled battery directly from its terminals is obtained, and a corrective arithmetic operation is carried out inside the device to correct the total voltage obtained through direct detection. The total voltage is detected with a high degree of accuracy without the need for individual adjustment operations using a variable resistance, high-accuracy external tester.

  • Patent number: 7292042
Abstract: A ground fault detector and detection method for a vehicle that can determine the cause of the occurrence of a ground fault after detecting the presence of the ground fault. The output terminal of a high-voltage battery is connected to one side of a coupling capacitor. In operation, a pulse signal is applied to a measurement point on the other side of the coupling capacitor, and the voltage generated at that point is detected. Whether the high-voltage battery or the electrical equipment units are grounded is determined. To determine the cause of the ground fault, the oscillation frequency of the square-wave pulse signal is changed and applied to the measurement point. From the change in voltage amplitude detected, it is determined whether the cause of the ground fault is a resistive or a capacitive ground fault, according to the change in the impedance of the battery or the units.

  • Publication number: 20070188948
Abstract: A grounding detector capable of detecting grounding of a circuit that is connected to a power supply, while using an inexpensive circuit configuration. In the grounding detector, a coupling capacitor is connected at one end to output terminal of the power supply. The coupling capacitor is connected at the other end to a measuring point. A voltage detector detects a voltage generated at the measuring point. A pulse generator generates a pulse signal with a prescribed frequency, and applies it to the measuring point. The pulse generator also generates a modified pulse signal or otherwise sets the frequency, of a modified pulse signal when the voltage detected by the voltage detector has gone outside of a prescribed range. The modified frequency or the sets frequency of the modified pulse is below the normally frequency prescribed when the voltage detected by the voltage detector is within the prescribed voltage range.

  • Patent number: 7138775
Abstract: A battery pack of a series combination of cell units is connected with a motor drive control circuit to drive a traction motor for a vehicle. A current sensor senses a discharge/charge current of the battery pack, and a voltage detecting circuit senses a voltage between two separate points in the series combination of the battery pack. A memory section stores a reference voltage drop quantity representing a decrease in voltage during a predetermined time interval between the two separate points. An offset detecting section compares an actual voltage drop quantity sensed by the voltage detecting circuit, with the reference voltage drop quantity, thereby detects a non-discharge/charge-current state of the current sensor, and reserves an output of the current sensor, as an offset quantity upon the detection. A correcting section corrects a sensed value of the discharge/charge current with the reserved offset quantity.

  • Patent number: 5936885
Abstract: A semiconductor memory including read memory cells, and detection memory cells, and being able to prevent an erroneous data inversion due to the time-varying reduction in the electric charge injected into their floating gate electrodes. The data in the read memory cells are read through read sense amplifiers, and the data in the detection memory cells are read by one or more detection sense amplifiers. The detection sense amplifiers are more likely to invert the data read out of the detection memory cells than the read sense amplifiers invert the data read out of the read memory cells. This enables the semiconductor memory to detect a sign of the data inversion through the outputs of the detection sense amplifiers before the data inversion of the desired data read from the read memory cells actually takes place, thereby preventing the data inversion of the desired data.
