  • Patent number: 5007307
Abstract: A cylinder block is detachably connected to a transmission casing so that an engine and a transmission constitutes a single unit. A crankshaft is entirely supported on the cylinder block. A crankshaft gear is installed on the crankshaft at the nearly central portion thereof. An intermediate shaft with an idler gear and an idler shaft with an input gear are entirely supported on the transmission casing in such a way that the idler gear and input gear are meshed with each other. The crankshaft gear and idler gear are automatically meshed with each other when the cylinder block is installed in place on the transmission casing.

  • Patent number: 4878469
Abstract: Herein disclosed is a power plant structure which generally includes an engine part and a transmission part. In order to increase the rigidity of the power plant structure, the cylinder block of the engine is tightly connected by bolts to a mounting portion integrally formed on a transmission case. For more assured rigidity, a ladder beam structure is tightly disposed between the cylinder block and the mounting portion.

  • Patent number: 4649869
Abstract: In order to prevent air leaking into a ICE cooling system wherein the coolant is boiled and condensed in a radiator or condenser in a manner that the rate of condensation can be increased to the point of lowering the pressure within the system to a sub-atmospheric level and thus lower the boiling point of the coolant, special seals are provided between the cylinder head and cylinder block (by way of example) which hermetically seal same against the invasion of contaminating air, while, when the engine is stopped, coolant is admitted to fill the system. To purge any air or like non-condensible which finds its way into the system, coolant is pumped in to overfill same during engine warm up.

  • Patent number: 4278407
Abstract: A device for controlling fuel injection in a diesel engine having a distribution type fuel injection pump, wherein injection is controlled to compensate for fuel temperature variation. The device comprises a heat sensitive element having a dimension that varies according to the fuel temperature to adjust fuel injection by displacement of a sleeve of the pump plunger of the pump via a lever. The temperature sensitive element is mounted or linked on an adjusting screw portion of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4129622
Abstract: An auxiliary air delivery system is connected to the fuel delivery passage of an engine carburetor for altitude compensation and is so constructed to prevent the back flow of fuel in the fuel delivery passage into the altitude compensator conduit by the vacuum trapped therein.

  • Patent number: 4026106
Abstract: The present invention concerns an overheat protection device for a catalytic converter in which the injection of secondary air is prevented when the temperature in the catalytic converter is higher than a lower predetermined value and a warning signal is produced when the temperature is higher than a higher predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 3967929
Abstract: Air is pumped into the engine exhaust manifold to promote oxidation of unburned remnants in exhaust gas when the temperature in a catalytic converter is below a safe level. The air supply to the exhaust manifold is shut off and air is pumped into the catalytic converter to cool it if the temperature goes above the safe level. The catalytic converter includes a catalytic means, having an outer periphery, which is resiliently supported away from the inner circumference of the converter casing. Upon the catalytic means reaching a predetermined maximum temperature, air is pumped into the annular space located between the outer periphery of the catalytic means, which may comprise either a particulate or a monolithic catalyst, and the inner circumference of the casing.
