    Abstract: There is provided a method of forming a thin film-based microfluidic electronic device. The method includes: providing a first elastomeric thin film layer on a substrate; depositing a first elastomer on the first elastomeric thin film by direct ink writing to form an elastomeric structure configured to define a microfluidic channel on the first elastomeric thin film layer; providing a second elastomeric thin film layer over the elastomeric structure to cover the microfluidic channel; providing a sacrificial layer on the second elastomeric thin film; depositing liquid metal into the microfluidic channel to form a conductor in the microfluidic channel; and electrically connecting the conductor to an electronic component. The thin film-based microfluidic electronic device is a tissue or skin adhesive sensor including a skin adhesive acoustic device.

    Abstract: There is provided a lung simulation apparatus for simulating a state of a living mammalian lung, the lung simulation apparatus comprising, a housing having a shape defined by an apex, an open base and a lateral surface that tapers from the open base to the apex; an elastic membrane covering the open base of the housing; an inflatable sac disposed within the housing, the sac being in substantial conformance with the shape of the housing and approximating the shape of the living mammalian lung, when in an inflated state; an internal space for containing fluid, the internal space being defined as the space between the housing and the inflatable sac and the space between the elastic membrane and the inflatable sac, wherein the space for containing fluid substantially complies with the anatomical dimensions of an intrapleural space of the living mammalian lung when the inflatable sac is in the inflated state. There is also provided a method of making the lung simulation apparatus.

    Abstract: A body fluid drainage device for draining a fluid from a body cavity is provided. The device comprises, a channel switching module for coupling to a fluid containment device, the channel switching module for controlling a direction of flow of the fluid with respect to the fluid containment device; a flow rate actuator for coupling to the fluid containment device, the flow rate actuator for controlling a rate of fluid flow into the fluid containment device; a processing module coupled to the channel switching module, the processing module being configured to control a fluid flow between the body cavity and the fluid containment device and to control a fluid flow from the fluid containment device using the channel switching module; and wherein the processing module is capable of controlling the fluid flow between the body cavity and the fluid containment device based on a pre-determined fluid volume in the fluid containment device. The fluid containment device may be optionally provided.
