  • Patent number: 5796198
Abstract: An electric motor used in an electric type power steering apparatus and the like, wherein a magnetic field unit outer casing 14 for encasing a magnetic field unit 7 comprising magnets 5 and an armature 6, is formed integral and concentric with a motor yoke 3, and a power supply unit outer casing 15 for encasing a commutator 22 and brushes 27 of a power supply unit 8, having a protruding portion 15a protruding from an axially concentric outer peripheral face thereof arranged eccentric to the magnetic field unit outer casing 14, is formed integral with the motor yoke 3. As a result, the influence of shock from the outside is suppressed, and accommodating space for the power supply unit ensured, so that long motor life is possible.

  • Patent number: 5211048
Abstract: Disclosed is a method of forming a shaped configuration by cold forging at an end of a long element, such as the armature shaft of a starter motor for an automobile. The die used in this method has an inner space in which a section for forming the shaped configuration is provided at one end portion thereof, and the diameter of the inner space gradually increases from the shaped configuration forming section to the other end portion of the inner space. A material is placed in the die from the other end portion of the inner space and, then, is forced into the die by a punch to be forged into the shape corresponding to that of the inner space of the die. After the forging, the shaped material is pushed out of the die by a knock-out pin which is inserted into the die in the opposite direction to the direction in which the material is forced.

  • Patent number: 5127253
Abstract: A shaft is cold-forged to have a shaped portion at one end of the shaft and a flange portion at a middle of the shaft. A taper portion is provided at a root of the flange portion on the opposite side thereof to the shaped portion. The shaped portion is formed by forward extrusion of a bar material, and the flange portion is formed by upsetting. The taper portion is formed by extruding the root of the flange portion to provide a gently inclined continuous connection between the flange portion and an adjacent portion of the shaft. The apparatus for manufacturing the shaft has at least a first set of dies, at least a second set of dies, and a conveyance system for transferring the shaft between the die sets.

  • Patent number: 4855609
Abstract: The present invention discloses a starter for starting an internal combustion engine which comprises:(a) a starter motor having a starter shaft;(b) a pinion gear splined to the starter shaft so as to be slidable along the starter shaft for connection and disconnection of the starter motor to the engine;(c) a shifting motor having a shifting shaft;(d) a sliding means helical splined to the shifting shaft for a reciprocal movement along the shifting shaft according to a rotational movement of the shifting shaft; and(e) a shift arm for transmitting the reciprocal movement of the sliding means to the pinion gear so as to move the latter for connection and disconnection of the starter motor and the engine.
