Patent number: 8203916Abstract: A control unit accesses a memory. The memory includes a plurality of blocks. The control unit includes a batch buffer, a batch controller and a multiplexer. The batch buffer stores a batch which includes a designated block index. The batch controller fetches the designated block index from the batch buffer. The multiplexer selectively outputs a sequential block index or the designated block index as an active index according to a control signal. And a designated block of the memory is accessed according to the active index.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2008Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Mediatek Inc.Inventors: Tun-Hsing Liu, Chih-Chuan Chen, Kun-Chieh Yang

Patent number: 8089842Abstract: A system and method of controlling data recording process of optical recording medium in a sequential writing are described. The control system comprises an information unit, a data-preparing unit and a recording controller. The information unit generates an information signal. The data-preparing unit prepares the data for recording. The data is then transformed into a writing signal according to the information signal. The recording controller controls the data-preparing unit to adjust the writing signal while acquiring the information signal during a sequential writing. Thus, the recording controller adjusts the writing signal according to the information signal. The data-preparing unit outputs the adjusted writing signal having desired recording area and undesired recording area and the adjusted writing signal is recorded on the optical recording medium during the sequential writing. The adjusted writing signal is outputted to OPU. The OPU performs a recording process of the optical recording medium.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2007Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Mediatek Inc.Inventors: Tun-hsing Liu, Hong-ching Chen, Yu-wei Ling

Patent number: 7457208Abstract: The displacement of a pick-up head along the radial direction of an optical disk is detected, and the absolute position of the pick-up head is determined by the accumulation of the displacement, hence the apparatus knows which area on the optical disk the pick-up head currently stays. After obtaining control signals for a motor to drive the pick-up head to move along the radial direction, the apparatus calculates the displacement of the pick-up head during every stroke according the control signals. Afterward, the absolute position is determined by the accumulation of the displacement during all strokes.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2005Date of Patent: November 25, 2008Assignee: Mediatek Inc.Inventor: Tun-Hsing Liu

Publication number: 20070274194Abstract: A system and method of controlling data recording process of optical recording medium by adjusting writing signal to record the adjusted writing signal on the optical recording medium in a sequential writing are described. The control system for controlling a recording process of an optical recording medium comprises an information unit, a data-preparing unit and a recording controller. The information unit generates an information signal. The data-preparing unit is coupled to the information unit receives data from a data source and prepares the data for recording. The data is then transformed into a writing signal according to the information signal. The recording controller coupled to the information unit and the data-preparing unit controls the data-preparing unit to adjust the writing signal while acquiring the information signal from the information unit during a sequential writing. Thus, the recording controller adjusts the writing signal according to the information signal.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2007Publication date: November 29, 2007Applicant: MEDIATEK Inc.Inventors: Tun-hsing Liu, Hong-ching Chen, Yu-wei Ling

Patent number: 7289397Abstract: A method for determining the position of a pick-up head involves retrieving the respective parameter values relating to the linear velocity and angular velocity of the pick-up head at a certain place on the optical disk, and then calculating the ratio of the parameter value of the linear velocity to the parameter value of the angular velocity. Since the ratio is linearly correlated with the distance between the pick-up head and the center of the optical disk, the absolute position of the pick-up head can be determined, as far as its whereabouts is concerned.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2005Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Assignee: Mediatek Inc.Inventor: Tun-Hsing Liu

Publication number: 20060013095Abstract: A defect detecting apparatus and a defect detecting method performs highly efficient and reliable defect detection over an optical disk. According to the defect detecting method, defect information is obtained during data recording. The necessity of data verification and the range of verification-demanding area are determined according to the defect information. The defect address is found efficiently by performing a data verification procedure over the verification-demanding area. The defect detecting method according to the present invention conducts data verification on defect-prone addresses instead performing a global examination for address areas recorded with data. Thereby, the defect detecting efficiency is enhanced.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 19, 2005Publication date: January 19, 2006Inventors: Tun-Hsing Liu, Chun-Ying Chiang, Hong-Ching Chen

Publication number: 20040143828Abstract: A method and related apparatus used for updating the firmware of an electronic system. The electronic system includes a host device and a peripheral device. The device has a control circuit and a flash memory for storing a first firmware code. The control circuit executes the first firmware code to control the device according to the control commands from the host. The method includes a checking step to check if the content of the second firmware code matches a predetermined content to ensure compatibility of the second firmware code before replacing/updating the first firmware code with a second firmware code. The checking step could be performed by the host and/or by the control circuit. The checking step is performed to check if values/strings of constants defined in the second firmware code match predetermined values/strings, and/or to check whether commands/information in predetermined addresses of the second firmware code match predetermined commands/information.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 8, 2003Publication date: July 22, 2004Inventors: Tun-Hsing Liu, Yuan-Ting Wu
