  • Patent number: 7539500
Abstract: A method for toll collection via a wireless network may include tracking a current position of a mobile station within a vehicle, and collecting a toll based on the current position of the mobile station.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 16, 2005
Date of Patent: May 26, 2009
    Assignee: Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc.
    Inventor: Tung Ching Chiang
  • Patent number: 6988032
Abstract: Where raw location data representing a position of the one or more mobile units is available, vehicular traffic data representing a position of one or more vehicles can be generated based on the raw location for the one or more mobile units. Such generation of vehicular traffic data can include speed-based filtering and/or position-based filtering of the raw location data.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 29, 2003
Date of Patent: January 17, 2006
    Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.
    Inventor: Tung Ching Chiang
  • Patent number: 6965760
Abstract: A method and apparatus for facilitating detection of satellite signals using a dynamic integration technique in which integration time periods of correlators are adjusted according to signal strength measurements of satellite signals received at GPS receivers. Specifically, integration time periods are inversely adjusted, either proportionally or non-proportionally, to received strengths of signals being searched.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 7, 1999
Date of Patent: November 15, 2005
    Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.
Inventors: Byron Hua Chen, Tung Ching Chiang, Ren Da, Ibrahim Tekin
  • Patent number: 6950664
Abstract: A method of geolocation that is backward compatible and more accurate than the well-known Cell/Sector ID method is provided. The geolocation method provided comprises the steps of determining a set of candidate locations for the mobile-station based on a timing advance value associated with the mobile-station and determining a location of the mobile-station using the set of candidate locations and signal strength measurements associated with same cell-neighboring sectors or different cell-neighboring sectors.

Date of Patent: September 27, 2005
    Assignee: Lucent Technologies Inc.

  • Publication number: 20030203745
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a base station with a timing reference that is precise and cost effective using assisting information to facilitate detection of, and extraction of system timing information from, satellite signals by the base station, thereby decreasing the intervals during which system timing information is unavailable and eliminating the need for a highly stabilized oscillator at the base station. Assisting information is any information which may be used by the base station to facilitate detection of satellite signals. Assisting information may include identities of satellites and satellite signal estimates, such as predicted navigation data, a Doppler frequency estimate, a code phase estimate, Doppler frequency and code phase search windows, etc. The satellite signal estimates are based on the known or current location of the base station.

  • Patent number: 6300905
Abstract: A location or position of a wireless mobile unit is determined using only measurements from a single base station. A distance between the wireless mobile unit and the base station is calculated utilizing a roundtrip delay value of an RF uplink signal received from a wireless mobile unit. Thereafter, an angle of arrival of the received signal is determined using measurements of the received signal from each of a plurality of antenna sectors of a multi-sector antenna. The angle of arrival is determined based upon stored antenna signal measurements of the multi-sector antenna, wherein a combination of different sector signal measurements corresponds to a single angle measurement. Using the determined distance and angle of arrival, a position or location of a wireless mobile unit can easily be determined using only measurements of the single base station.
