    Abstract: An apparatus for motion compensated noise reduction for input images is provided. The motion estimation and motion compensation circuit performs a motion estimation operation and a motion compensation operation on a current image and a previous image to obtain a first patch. The block matching operation circuit performs a block matching operation on the current image and the previous image to obtain a second patch. The motion detection circuit performs a motion detection operation on a target patch according to the first patch and the second patch to output a set of third patches. The current image includes the target patch. The noise reduction circuit performs a noise reduction operation on the set of third patches according to a threshold curve, so as to generate the target patch that the noise is reduced. A method for motion compensated noise reduction for input images is also provided.

    Abstract: A flexible video cadence detecting apparatus includes a motion detecting unit, a cycle detecting unit, a film detecting unit, and a de-interlacing unit. The motion detecting unit receives a plurality of continuous field images and determines whether or not there is motion in each field image. The motion detecting unit assigns a first or a second value according to whether or not there is motion in the field image, so as to obtain a value stream. The cycle detecting unit receives the value stream and detects whether or not the first or the second value has a cycle, so as to output a cycle determinant. The film detecting unit receives the value stream and the cycle determinant and determines whether or not the field images are a film, to output a cadence pattern. The de-interlacing unit restores the field images into an original film according to the cadence pattern.

    Abstract: A filter for reducing image noise including a sum of absolute difference (SAD) unit and a weighting unit is provided. The SAD unit receives pixels of a target window and receives multiple pixels of multiple peripheral windows, which are neighboring to a target pixel of the target window. Each of the peripheral windows has a peripheral pixel neighboring to the target pixel. The SAD unit calculates absolute differences for each of the pixels corresponding to the target window and the peripheral window. The absolute differences are calculated by a difference calculation to obtain a difference analyzed value. The weighting unit receives each of the difference analyzed values and assigns multiple weights respectively to the peripheral pixels according to a data table.
