  • Patent number: 8052718
Abstract: A non-invasive blood vessel occlusion device includes a pair of pressure-applying members with opposed tissue-contacting surfaces, a supporting shaft configured to adjust the distance between tissue-contacting surfaces, and at least one sensor for locating a blood vessel disposed on at least one pressure-applying member. Blood vessels may be occluded by indirectly compressing the artery by compressing tissue near to an artery. The occlusion device finds use in, for example, treating uterine disorders and conditions which may be treated by occlusion of the uterine arteries. A uterine artery may be accessed via a body cavity, such as a patient's vagina, and may be occluded by compressing a portion of the vaginal wall around a portion of a uterine artery.

  • Publication number: 20110271036
Abstract: A method and system for phasing power-intensive operations is disclosed. A non-volatile storage device controller detects a power reset. The controller is in communication with non-volatile memories in the non-volatile storage device. In response to detecting a power reset, the controller determines a current consumption necessary to reset the non-volatile memories in the non-volatile storage device. The controller simultaneously resets all of the non-volatile memories when the determined current consumption is less than a current consumption threshold. If the determined current consumption is greater than the current consumption threshold, the controller resets a first subset of the plurality of non-volatile memories, and after a predetermined delay, resets a second subset of the non-volatile memories. Therefore, a power-intensive operation may be performed without exceeding a current consumption threshold by dividing the operation into a sequence of steps that do not exceed the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20110267015
Abstract: A feedback loop is used to optimize a zero current threshold for a switching regulator. After the low side power switch of the switching regulator turns off, the switching node state is monitored to adjust the zero current threshold in a real time and thus the low-side power switch is prevented from turning off too early or too late. Thereby the efficiency in green mode is optimized.

  • Patent number: 8049936
Abstract: The invention provides a portable computer system for capturing a target image related to an item. The portable computer system comprises a base, a cover, an image capturing module, and a lightness adjusting module. The cover is pivotally connected to the base, and comprises a panel. According to the size of the item, the cover rotates with respect to the base to project the light radiated from the panel onto the base. The image capturing module is used for rotating with respect to the cover to capture a reference image according to the size of the item. The lightness adjusting module is used for adjusting the lightness of the panel according to the reference image. After the lightness of the panel is adjusted, the item is deposed on the base, and the image capturing module captures the target image related to the item.

  • Patent number: 8047151
Abstract: A system and method for configuring and supporting mooring lines deployed on offshore structures, e.g. Spar-type platform, are provided with recessed portions that are located around the splash/ice zones for “cutting” through waves. An offshore structure may be provided with a chain tensioning mechanism that applies a desired tension to a hull chain and mooring line during mooring. Upon mooring the offshore structure, a chain lock mechanism maintains the tension in the hull chain and mooring line, while the chain tensioning mechanism releases a portion of the hull chain which is to be stored in a chain housing which is fully submerged underwater. This way, the recessed portions of the offshore structure around the splash/ice zones would be substantially free of the hull chains. Additionally, a disconnect mechanism may be provided to allow quick and safe disconnection of the offshore structure from the mooring position.

  • Publication number: 20110261348
Abstract: An optical calibration and testing device for machine tools includes a light source unit, a beam splitter, and at least one photo detector. The light source emits a laser light hitting the beam splitter and is split into two beams. One is perpendicular to the foundation of the light source unit, and the other is parallel with the foundation so as to test straightness, inclination angle, verticalness, vertical column inclination, vertical column parallelism and guide bar inclination of a machine tool. If there is no tested error, the position of the testing light spot coincides with that of the initial light spot. If there is an error, the position of testing light spot varies according to the error.

  • Publication number: 20110261662
Abstract: A lens pull-in method is used in a near-field optical accessing system. When a lens is in a far-field range, the lens is driven to approach a surface of an optical disc in an open loop control state. If the lens enters a near-field range, a first GES level is inputted as a set value and the lens is driven in a close loop control state. When the gap error signal decreases to the first GES level, the set value is changed to a second GES level, which is higher than the first GES level. When the gap error signal increases to the first GES level, the set value is changed to a target GES level, so that the gap error signal is maintained at the target gap error signal.
