  • Publication number: 20050281216
Abstract: The invention relates to a method, a system, a network node and a computer program for controlling data communication in a communication system. In the method a group comprising at least two serving nodes is formed in the communication network. At least one terminal node is associated with the group. Configuration information is received in a first serving node from a second serving node. A first message is received from a terminal node in the first serving node. In the first serving node is determined a second serving node from the group with at least a first identifier in the first message and the configuration information. The first message is sent from the first serving node to the second serving node. The first message is processed in the second serving node. A second identifier indicating the second serving node is provided to the terminal node. The second serving node is indicated in a second message from the terminal node.

  • Publication number: 20050185619
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and system for performing packet switched handover in a mobile communication network. The system comprises a mobile node, a first and a second packet switching node. The method enables the parallel sending of logical link layer frames from the first and the second packet switching node. This is achieved so that the mobile node does not reject incoming frames received from two logical link layer entities having different states. The benefits of the invention are related to improved quality of service and the avoiding of gaps in received data during handover.

  • Patent number: 6904034
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for allowing communication between a BSS and SGSN, each having an NS-VC table and utilizing a different mode of communication. For example, a BSS may utilize associating UDP with NSE and IP with NS-VC and the SGSN may utilize associating UDP with NS-VC and IP with NSE. The method and system provides for the construction of an NS-VC table correlating the NS-VC table of the BSS and SGSN. Therefore, the method and system provides for the conversion of a data packet having UDP associated with NS-VC and IP associated with NSE to UDP having association with NSE and IP having association with NS-VC and vice versa. An NS-VC table may be constructed from information provided from a negotiations procedure or normal communications. The constructed NS-VC table allows for communications between the mobile communications architecture and the packet switched architecture, without requiring compatible utilization of UDP and IP.

  • Publication number: 20040082366
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to provide a virtual radio access network access server (RNAS) which is able to operate as an interworking unit between the base stations and other radio access elements as well as core network. Specifically, unlike according to the present scenario of the radio access network in which the functionalities of RNC and BSC have been implemented in the separate elements thus significantly increasing the number of network elements that has to be logically connected to the core network and/or to other radio access networks, the present invention is designed to reduce the amount of said elements.

  • Patent number: 6615269
Abstract: A method is disclosed for a mobile station (MS) for negotiating a set of Layer 3 parameters with a network device (NW) in association with the setup of a new Packet Data Protocol context. A request message (511) is created for requesting the setup of a new Packet Data Protocol context, and a set of suggested Layer 3 parameters (510) is inserted into the created request message. The request message is transmitted to the network device. After receiving from the network device a set of agreed Layer 3 parameters (514), they are employed within the new Packet Data Protocol context the setup of which was requested.

  • Publication number: 20010033563
Abstract: The method and system provides a data packet encapsulated with protocol data according to an embodiment of the invention. A data packet for communication may be associated with a TLLI and a NSAPI identifying a communications path between a BSS and a SGSN. The method and system provides a BVC associated with the BSS and the SGSN and a NSE that provides communication service to the BVC over NS-VC. The BVC, NSE and NS-VC may be associated with the TLLI and NSAPI. The encapsulated protocol data comprises UDP and IP. UDP provides UDP ports associated with NS-VC. The UDP ports identified as data designated as either real time or non-real time services. IP provides an IP address identifying the NSE providing service to the BVC. The data packet encapsulated with UDP and IP provides for more efficient, flexible and reliable communications between a BSS and a SGSN.
