Publication number: 20220112947Abstract: A gear system includes at least one gear stage, a pump system and oil channels for circulating a first lubricant oil flow via first elements of the gear stage and a second lubricant oil flow via second elements of the gear stage, and an oil conditioning system for controlling temperatures of the first and second lubricant oil flows so that the temperatures of the first and second lubricant oil flows are different from each other and flow rates of the first and second lubricant oil flows are different from each other. Thus, it is possible to utilize for example the fact that bearings do not need as much oil flow as gear wheels but, on the other hand, lowering oil temperature of the bearings provides more advantages than lowering oil temperature of the gear wheels.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2021Publication date: April 14, 2022Inventors: Tuomas VUOLLE-APIALA, Juha HEINO

Patent number: 10309518Abstract: A gear unit comprises shafts (101, 102) for connecting to an external mechanical system, at least one gear stage (103) between the shafts, a lubricant oil room (104) for storing lubricant oil, an oil channel (105) for transporting the lubricant oil from the lubricant oil room to the at least one gear stage, and an immersion heater (106) for heating the lubricant oil flowing in the lubricant oil room towards an inlet of the oil channel. The gear unit further comprises a mechanical flow guide (108) located in the lubricant oil room and configured to modify flow of the lubricant oil flowing towards the inlet of the oil channel so as to increase flow velocity of the lubricant oil on the surface of the immersion heater. The increased flow velocity on the surface of the immersion heater makes it possible to use higher heating power without damaging the lubricant oil.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2015Date of Patent: June 4, 2019Assignee: MOVENTAS GEARS OYInventors: Mikko Koponen, Tuomas Vuolle-Apiala

Patent number: 9525320Abstract: An electromechanical device having a mechanical interface structure for connecting to an external rotating element, an electrical machine, and one or more gear stages on a mechanical power transmission path between the mechanical interface structure and a rotor of the electrical machine. The electromechanical device also has bearings for connecting the rotor of the electrical machine rotatably to the structure of the electromechanical device. The bearings carry the axial and radial forces of the rotor, and at least partly the axial and radial forces of the driving shaft of the gear stage, directly connected to the rotor.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2011Date of Patent: December 20, 2016Assignees: MOVENTAS GEARS OY, THE SWITCH DRIVE SYSTEMS OYInventors: Tuomas Vuolle-Apiala, Jorma Tirkkonen, Ville Pakarinen, Jari Toikkanen, Olli Liukkonen, Jorma Mustalahti, Ilkka Martikainen

Patent number: 9464691Abstract: An electromechanical device comprises a mechanical interface structure (101) for connecting to an external rotating element, for example a wind turbine. The device comprises an electrical machine (102-104), and one or more gear stages (105-112) on a power transmission path between the mechanical interface structure and a rotor of the electrical machine. The device further comprises mechanical structures (113-115) constituting a common lubricant oil room for both the gear stages and the electrical machine. The electromechanical device comprises oil channels (116a) for directing lubricant oil circulated in the device to flow via the gear stages and via bearings (118, 119) of the electrical machine. Therefore, a common lubricating system can be used for both the gear stages and the electrical machine.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2011Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignees: The Switch Drive Systems Oy, Moventas Gears OYInventors: Tuomas Vuolle-Apiala, Jorma Tirkkonen, Ville Pakarinen, Jari Toikkanen, Olli Liukkonen, Jorma Mustalahti, Ilkka Martikainen

Patent number: 8841815Abstract: A method for installing a rotor of an electrical machine is disclosed. The method comprises using axially directed guide bars (107-109) for keeping the rotor (102) centered with respect to a bore of a stator (101) during the installation of the rotor. The rotor has sliding surfaces so that it can be slid in the axial direction to its final position along the guide bars. The mechanical support structure (104) that supports bearings (105, 106) of the rotor are provided with supporting surfaces for being able to give mechanical support to the guide bars. The mechanical support structure (104) may comprise for example threaded holes to which threaded ends of the guide bars can be tightened. After the rotor has been moved to its final position and it is supported by the bearings, the guide bars are removed.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 2011Date of Patent: September 23, 2014Assignees: The Switch Drive Systems Oy, Moventas Gears OyInventors: Tuomas Vuolle-Apiala, Jorma Tirkkonen, Ville Pakarinen, Jari Toikkanen, Olli Liukkonen, Jorma Mustalahti, Ilkka Martikainen
