  • Patent number: 11526621
Abstract: A method and system for capturing asset protection metadata pertinent to analytics. Specifically, the disclosed method and system entail aggregating and maintaining asset protection metadata—i.e., metadata descriptive of performed asset backup and recovery operations—in a central location. The asset protection metadata may include information relevant to backup and recovery analytics and reporting, while the maintaining said metadata in the central location facilitates access of the metadata by third-party analytics services.

  • Patent number: 11507467
Abstract: A method and system for asset protection threat detection and mitigation using interactive graphics. Specifically, the disclosed method and system entail discerning protection vulnerabilities exhibited by assets (or databases) based on maintained backup metadata. These protection vulnerabilities may subsequently be visualized as part of a projected graphical user interface, which may not only disclose the protection vulnerabilities to a user but also may enable the user to rectify the disclosed protection vulnerabilities through on-demand asset backup operations.

  • Patent number: 11243843
Abstract: A method and system for optimizing backup and backup discovery operations using change based metadata tracking (CBMT). Specifically, the disclosed method and system entail eliminating the storage and subsequent transmission of redundant asset metadata information to a central coordination point during backup discovery operations, which may strain central coordination point resources, as well as client device resources. Accordingly, rather than re-sharing the same asset metadata information every time a backup discovery initiates, the client device tracks, maintains, and transmits only changes in asset metadata, thereby conserving resource utilization.

  • Patent number: 11106523
Abstract: A method and system for intelligently resolving failures recurring in information technology (IT) environments. Specifically, the method and system disclosed herein may be directed to the resolution of persistently-occurring failures observed in data backup and/or data recovery operations. Further, resolution of any given persistently-occurring failure may entail the identification of zero, one, or more solutions (e.g., patches and/or other instructions) based on the analyses of failure-related information and host-related configuration information using machine learning and/or artificial intelligence paradigms. In cases where zero solutions are identified, the conventional and manual investigative route by way of support ticketing may be pursued.

  • Publication number: 20210133056
Abstract: A method and system for efficiently handling backup discovery operations. Specifically, the disclosed method and system entail enhancing breadcrumbs—e.g., persistent files that store status and other metadata information respective to performed asset backup operations—to further include unique transaction identifiers. These transaction identifiers may serve as markers for distinguishing which subset of breadcrumbs (rather than all breadcrumbs) to forward to a central management system during asset backup discovery operations. The disclosed method and system also implement batch processing architecture to regulate resource consumption on both the client and manager sides.

  • Patent number: 10732886
Abstract: A backup agent for generating backups includes a persistent storage and a backup manager. The persistent storage stores backup/restoration policies. The backup manager obtains production host computing resource characteristics associated with production hosts; performs a computing resource analysis of the production host computing resource characteristics to obtain resource profiles for each of the production hosts; performs an availability analysis of the obtained resource profiles to determine an application-level computing resources distribution for generating the backups; coordinates generating the backups using the application-level computing resource distribution and the backup/restoration policies to obtain the backups; and stores the obtained backups in backup storage.

  • Patent number: 10606709
Abstract: A method and system for intelligently load balancing database backup operations in information technology (IT) environments. Specifically, the method and system disclosed herein may be directed to breaking down any given database backup operation into various constituent backup operation stages. Further, each successive backup operation stage of the various backup operation stages may be performed on an appropriate client node in a cluster of client nodes through load balancing orchestration. Selection of the appropriate client node to perform a given backup operation stage may be determined at least based on an availability of resources for performing database backup operations on the client node versus the availability of resources on other client nodes in the cluster.

  • Publication number: 20190377642
Abstract: A decoupled backup solution for distributed databases across a failover cluster. Specifically, a method and system disclosed herein improve upon a limitation of existing backup mechanisms involving distributed databases across a failover cluster. The limitation entails restraining backup agents, responsible for executing database backup processes across the failover cluster, from immediately initiating these aforementioned processes upon receipt of instructions. Rather, due to this limitation, these backup agents must wait until all backup agents, across the failover cluster, receive their respective instructions before being permitted to initiate the creation of backup copies of their relative distributed database. Subsequently, the limitation imposes an initiation delay on the backup processes, which the disclosed method and system omit, thereby granting any particular backup agent the capability to immediately (i.e., without delay) initiate those backup processes.
