  • Patent number: 5274983
Abstract: Method and apparatus for wrapping a signature bundle by moving a wrapping sheet into the path of movement of a bundle, said sheet being maintained in self-supporting fashion by imparting a bend thereto as it is fed to the wrapping station. The bundle "crashes" into the sheet causing it to collapse and wrap itself about the bundle. When the wrapping operation is completed, the wrapping sheet is wrapped around three contiguous surfaces of the bundle. The sheet is automatically cut and a new wrapping operation is initiated. The wrapping sheet may be printed upon by an ink jet printing characters "on the fly". The characters are printed backwards and "bleed through" the wrapping sheet to appear in normal manner.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 13, 1992
Date of Patent: January 4, 1994
    Assignee: Quipp Systems, Inc.

  • Patent number: 4589669
Abstract: A pallet truck hydraulic jack has a base plate mounting a lift cylinder with a reciprocal piston or lift rod and a pump cylinder with a reciprocal pump piston. A frame mounts a pair of forks having retractable rollers at their ends and is pivotally mounted upon the base plate and operatively engaged by the lift rod for raising the frame and lowering the rollers. A hydraulic reservoir is mounted upon the base plate. A hydraulic control system includes a pivot axle depending from the base plate having a bore coaxial of the lift cylinder. A plunger piston within the axle shaft bore is connected to the lift cylinder piston rod. There are a plurality of manifold passages formed in the base plate, adapted for supplying pressurized hydraulic fluid from the pump to the plunger piston and to the lift rod, which interconnects the reservoir and the pump and interconnects the reservoir and the lift cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4577463
Abstract: A pallet truck hydraulic jack has a base plate mounting a lift cylinder with a reciprocal piston or lift rod and a pump cylinder with a reciprocal pump piston. A cartridge type directional control valve assembly within the base plate controls the flow of pressurized hydraulic fluid in respective manifold passages so that manual actuation of the pump effects a quick lift of the frame when it is unloaded, effects an additional application of lifting force through the lift cylinder when the frame is loaded, bypasses pressurized hydraulic fluid to the reservoir when the frame is overloaded, and provides a release of pressurized hydraulic fluid from the pump cylinder and the lift plunger and returns it to the reservoir for lowering the frame and forks.

  • Patent number: 4567911
Abstract: A cartridge type directional control valve assembly includes an elongated housing having a bore and a plug threaded in the outer end of the housing adjacent the bore. A changeover, spring biased piston forming a load senser or pressure sensor is provided in the bore with a sealing O ring therebetween. A coil spring is interposed between the plug and the changeover piston. The plug has a vent passage for venting the chamber of the coil spring. A valve retaining screw located in the housing, is centrally apertured and loosely receives the shank of the cone or flow control valve. A coil spring is nested within the valve retaining screw and bears against the flow control valve which is normally seated with respect to a central aperture within the cone valve insert seat. A floating ball check valve is nested within the cartridge assembly and is axially aligned with and opposite from the flow control valve. The control valve and ball check valve control flow across their respective valve seats.

  • Patent number: 4424885
Abstract: In a pallet lift truck having a base, an upright axle shaft, a wheel fork and a transverse axle mounting a pair of spaced resilient wheels, and a normally upright steering handle pivoted at one end to the base. A mechanical brake assembly comprises a brake housing with downwardly opening slots positionable over and removably mounted upon the axle between the wheels. An upright brake arm extends into and is pivotally mounted upon the brake housing and includes a brake bar projecting therefrom overlying and spaced from the wheels and normally biased to an inoperative position. A brake actuator boss upon the steering handle on downward pivoting thereof operatively engages the brake arm moving the brake bar into operative compressive frictional engagement with the wheels.
