  • Publication number: 20200181007
Abstract: An electronic device may include electrical components mounted within a housing. The device may have a display on a front face of the device that is covered with a glass structure and may have a glass structure that forms part of the housing on a rear face of the device. The housing may also have a sidewall formed from glass, metal, or other materials. The glass structures of the electronic device may have a surface that is covered with an antiscratch layer, an antireflection layer, or other coating. A spiral grain polycrystalline material may form a coating on the surface of the glass structures to help avoid fracturing of the glass structures when the electronic device is dropped or otherwise subjected to stress.

  • Publication number: 20200095159
Abstract: Electronic device components that include a glass portion and a ceramic or a glass ceramic portion are disclosed. The ceramic or glass ceramic portions of the component may be located to provide desired performance characteristics to the component, which may be an enclosure component. In addition, regions of compressive stress may be formed within the glass portion, the glass ceramic portion, or both to further adjust the performance characteristics of the component. Electronic devices including the components and methods for making the components are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20190370507
Abstract: A system for loss prevention and loss recovery of portable electronic devices. The system includes a server administered by an administrator, a software application executable on a portable electronic device in communication with the server, a unique registration identifier associated with the portable electronic device, and a distance tracking device. The association between the portable electronic device and the unique registration identifier is stored on the server. The software application is configured to connect to the distance tracking device. The distance tracking device is configured to provide a notification when the distance tracking device is further than a predetermined boundary from the portable electronic device. When the unique registration identifier is entered at a website associated with the server, return delivery information is provided.

  • Publication number: 20190100457
Abstract: Components of an electronic device, such as glass articles, are susceptible to breakage, especially in regions where machining a glass article has created flaws. Chemical strengthening can be performed to create deeper compression layers at regions of a glass article that have been machined, include and/or are adjacent to an edge feature, have greater surface roughness, and/or have more or deeper cracks.

  • Patent number: 9961613
Abstract: A system for minimizing driver distractions from a mobile device can include a blocking device and a blocking engine. The blocking device can include a first end, a second end, a cable, and a control board. The first end can include a first connector for coupling to a first port of a mobile device. The second end can include a second connector for coupling to a second port of a vehicle to receive a power signal from the vehicle. The cable can connect the first end to the second end. The control board can determine when movement of the vehicle exceeds a threshold value and transmit a launch signal. The blocking engine can receive the launch signal from the control board and launch a mobile application on the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8997666
Abstract: A combustion device in the form of an elevated fixed-grate that includes arcuately shaped solid refractory brick with ribs placed thereunder so as to allow horizontal air flow for fuel combustion. The brick are arranged atop one another in a stacked concentric configuration that forms a central fuel passageway and allows cascading of a fuel pile throughout the combustion stages. The device provides the benefit of proper de-ashing online while distributing the underfire air radially around the fuel pile. The elevated design of the bricks allows the air to be evenly distributed throughout the fuel pile and further allows the isolation of overfire and underfire air. Segregating overfire and underfire air in an evenly distributed manner allows the burner to combust a wide range of fuel moisture contents without modifying the mechanical components of the burner.
