  • Publication number: 20210107261
Abstract: A multilayer packaging film and process is provided. Each layer of the film is positioned relative to each other layer in the following sequential order: (a) an exterior layer, (b) a first tie layer, (c) a first inner polyamide layer, (d) a barrier layer, (e) a second inner polyamide layer, (f) a second tie layer and (g) an interior layer of sealant material. The multilayer packaging film has a Thickness of from 0.50 mil to 3.0 mil. The multilayer packaging film has a Shrinkage Value of no more than five percent. The multilayer packaging film has a One-percent Secant Modulus of from about 100,000 psi to about 160,000 psi.

  • Publication number: 20200031550
Abstract: A tear open shrink bag that includes second and third seal extending from the first seal and a tear initiator. After filling and sealing the bag, the bagged product is exposed to heat to shrink the bag tight to the product. The product can be manually removed from the bag by pulling at the assistors in the header, propagating the tear from the initiator through the seal and into the body of the bag.

  • Publication number: 20180222161
Abstract: The present invention is directed to rigid or semi-rigid trays having a bulk layer comprising a crystalline aromatic polyester and a capping layer which is in direct contact with the bulk layer. The capping layer comprises a copolymer having a first structural repeating unit of ethylene and a second structural repeating unit selected from the following: (i) an acrylate-based moiety: fit) at least 12% by weight relative to the total weight of the copolymer of vinyl acetate; and (iii) an anhydride or carboxylic acid. It has been discovered that the bulk layer and the capping layer of the present invention can be readily co-extruded together and have sufficient bond strength to each other despite their chemical dissimilarity. In some preferred embodiments, the capping layer acts as a heat seal layer and is formulated to heat seal to conventional polyolefin-based lidstock.

  • Patent number: 9242431
Abstract: The present disclosure is concerned with forming and non-forming webs with improved puncture resistance suitable for use in semi-automatic horizontal form fill and seal (HFFS) packaging machines and a process for packaging hard food items with sharp angular surfaces using such webs in such machines. The webs have a double wall partially laminated structure. The structure is conveniently formed by adhesively laminating two component films in a face to face configuration using a pattern of adhesive which leaves a substantial portion of the two facing surfaces unlaminated. The lamination just needs to be sufficient that the two component films will hot form together when they are vacuum drawn into a die to form a cavity for packaging the food items. The webs comprise at least a first thermoplastic component film having substantial stored shrink forces and a second thermoplastic component film having no substantial stored shrink forces.
